Ah, my page finally loaded and I can see this picture:
http://www.adexelec.com/pciexp.htm#PEMINI2X1

Notice the form of this adaptor, it converts Mini-PCIe to standard PCI-E x1.

ALL standard PCI-E cards should conform to a PCI-E x1 slot, see this review where an 8800 card was run at x1 x2 x4 x8: http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/03/27/pci_express_scaling_analysis/page3.html

It looks like this should be doable with off-the-shelf hardware, in fact any laptop should accept a video card upgrade this way, providing there is proper bios support.

I do realize this will render the screen useless, this is more for embedded system/HTPC front-end uses, and of course will make a sweet project for the busted-screen EEEpc's that will turn up on eBay (These will be given to kids because of their low price).

I thought that I couldn't make myself any clearer.

PCI-E is a specification for transmission and connection, AFAIK the Mini-PCIE slot and the PCI-E x1 connector found on a regular PC have no differences signal-wise. The PCI-E x1 supplies +12v and +3.3v, both of which I am fully prepared to supply seperately.

The signal travels along 2 pairs, and has multiple grounds, I don't see a logical reason why I couldn't make a video card connection to the laptop.
Those pictures of the 700 clearly show the mini-PCIe (It has a wifi in it.)

There are adaptors from PCI-E to Mini-PCI and Expresscard, and from Expresscard to PCI-E x1: http://www.adexelec.com/pciexp.htm#PEX1-MINI

Ugh, I thought I couldn't be more clear, PCI-E cards should work for this laptop with proper power supply and adaptor.

There is no PCI-E x1 device slot even rumored, Miles. We're talking about a miniPCI-E slot...which is different from what you're talking about, and also different from an Express Card.

Miles, I don't think the EEE will have has the slot you are thinking of. If the 701 has anything it will be the mini PCI-E slot, which PCI 1x devices will not fit. Look at this site to see the supposed slot (I think will be available in 701 models but not 700 models)...
http://unicap-imaging.org/unicap_eeepc.htm

and this one to see what one of the things that fits it looks like...

OK, I don't give a crap about PCI-E CARD slot, if it has a mini PCI-E onboard connector it will be fine, either one will need a breakout to enable me to plug in PCI-E x1 devices. (PS *all* video cards are compliant down to x1, it is PCI-E spec that they must be. And there have been reviews on PCI-Express bus scaling, check them out if you like.)

@picklefart
I must have just been confused then, thank you. Good to know it's not what the final model will have. Yeah, I'm actually planning on pre-ordering at Allasus, and I assumed their specs were correct, thats why this confused me so much.
I can't imagine the 700 series would sell well at all, but since they're not even coming to the US, I'm sure they'll be popular in poorer countries.

Either way, I'm excited for the 300 dollar model. Thanks a lot for the pointers, really cheered me up.
