More Official Page Updates, Two More Reviews

October 8th, 2007 by ant

The official Asus Eee PC product page has received a few more updates, specifically a table showing the possibly finalized specifications of the four models. Most notable are the device names and the battery types. The model names (going from highest end to lowest end) are: Eee PC 4G, Eee PC 2G, Eee PC 2G Surf, and Eee PC 2G Pure. In the same order, the battery specifications are: 4 Cells 5200 mAh, 4 Cells 4400 mAh, 4 Cells 4400 mAh, 2 Cells 2600 mAh.

Also, check out this review (the original is in Russian) that has CPU-Z information about the processor along with benchmarks. It appears to be the Eee PC 700 model. [thanks pulped]

The French Eee PC blog Blogeee has up part three of their great series of reviews on the Eee PC 701 (the original French version is here.)

Finally, it looks like ASUS removed the reference of the Eee PC 801 on their website- it was up, then removed, then up again, but now removed once again…

It looks like the specs for storage and RAM are shrinking every time they update the info! If the high end model was going to be $399, it only has 4g of storage, 512 of RAM! This is looking less and less like a good deal every day. And no word of FCC approval?

  2. Dmitry Says:

    430$ for Russia (0_0)?????

    Reviews are fun, but.

Specs are lowing, price are increasing…

    What about VIA c-7 notebook???

  3. patton13 Says:

whats the difference between 2G and 2G surf the specs are the same.

  4. cmbll Says:

looks like those russians had pre-release model again, they say that ram is not replaceable

  5. yesh yesh Says:

How do we even know thats a pre model? Wishful thinking. That could possibly be one of the 2g models.

  6. turn_self_off Says:

looks like its a much better skin on the desktop now then was shown on earlier images.

  7. Nightwing Says:

So stereo speakers are an option on one unit? ^_^

  8. Mog Says:

I’m thinking the lack of “Stereo” speakers on the “2G” unit is a typo. But still…that’s the only listed difference between it and the “2G Surf”…

    Other thoughts:

The inclusion of a microphone seems to imply that all the models have webcams.

I like the names, although I’m not sure what “really short battery life” has to do with purity. (”Pure” seems to be the new way of saying stripped-down - see: smart fortwo pure).

  9. Mog Says:

Oh, and the 4G unit apparently has a slightly beefier battery, too.

  11. Ronald Says:

We must not forget that this product specification page is still part of a site under construction and probably not even meant to be seen by the public. Nothing is mentioned yet about different specifications regarding modem vs WiFi, yes or no camera, and maybe more.

  12. Ronald Says:

The third part of the French review is really exiting. It shows how well the Eee PC hardware and the default software are designed as a unity. It also shows, with pictures, replacing the RAM with 1024MB.

  13. myzter Says:

Instead@ pro-longing agony in what is the future. Maybe this MoBo - onboard this & that, give me the benefit bitz.

  14. Mike Cane Says:

It’s October 8th as I type this. I think by November 8th everything will have been revealed.

But then I am being giddily optimistic and will be justifiably punished…

  15. Zed Says:

I think the 2g and 2g surf means, one have wifi the other doesnt..

  16. wsoft2002 Says:

It the 4G module goes to 399, I am thinking should I buy a 12.1 notebook at 499. Personaly I feel that the 399 should come with 8G!

  17. s Says:

    Boooring!

  18. Revert Says:

    Where’s your 499 12-incher? Cheapest 12 I saw was 600!

#11 “We must not forget that this product specification page is still part of a site under construction and probably not even meant to be seen by the public.”

All the EeePC-ads on the global Asus.com site is linked to that site. So the public is probably meant to see it. ;)
Still it´s a work-in-progress and stuff needs to be updated there, but it´s not like we all stumbled into a hidden-to-the-public developer section at Asus.com.

“All the EeePC-ads on the global Asus.com site is linked to that site. So the public is probably meant to see it.”

Where do you see EeePC-ads on the asus.com site? I cannot find anything about the EeePC on asus.com, except a news item with the the June 11th press release. No ads, no links, nothing.

As far as I can see, the eee.asus.com pages and the event.com/eepc pages are not linked to from anywhere on the asus.com site.

  22. Ronald Says:

typo: With eee.asus.com pages I meant of course eeepc.asus.com pages.

  23. Julio Says:

“Where do you see EeePC-ads on the asus.com site?”

    try Global Asus:
    http://www.asus.com/index.aspx

There is a “huge” EeePC ad on top. For sure it’s public.

  24. Julio Says:

Just found that the ad is random :)

Anyway, there is another one smaller on the left.

  25. Julio Says:

More detailed specifications on the site…

The difference between Eee PC 2G and Eee PC 2G Surf is the camera… and Eee PC 2G Pure doesn’t have wifi.

  26. Ronald Says:

I have not seen the large ad so far but I found the small one on the left, which I did not see there when I looked before.
    It links to http://eeepc.asus.com/

  27. Mark Says:

Looks like there is another UK distributor:
    http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2007/10/09/rm_asus_launches_minibook/
They are claiming £199 for the top model!

  28. mdxi Says:

The difference in the 2G and the 2G Surf is the absence of a camera in the Surf model.

  29. zzz Says:

If it only had a trackpoint (pointing stick) I would definitely buy one. Alas, after a couple of years of prolonged Thinkpad X series use, touchpads are driving me nuts.

  30. nate Says:

I am glad that all of you find this ultra-mobile Linux PC is so horribly expensive and dissapointing. (even though I have yet to see any prices in the US market)

It’s just going to make it that much easier for me and my friends to find one.

  31. Ronald Says:

AllAsus.com accepts pre-orders for three Eee PC models, ranging form $260 to $400.

The images and names on this page link to more product specifications.

  32. Ronald Says:

According to AllAsus.com the units will start shipping this month, the RAM is upgradeable to 1GB max, and the two more expensive models come with a sleeve case.
They will accept US orders only.

  33. crow Says:

Forget Asus EEE. Go get IPOD TOUCH.

  34. FrankBlack Says:

    @crow:
No thanks to the IPhuckup. You see, I want to be able to install whatever programs I choose without bricking my device when the next firmware upgrade comes. :p

  35. alec@aleccawley.com Says:

Well, RM accepted my order for “RM Asus miniBook 4GB 512mb” for a total of £239.12 for delivery 2nd Nov.

  36. Juan Camilo Says:

I also read at another blog that ASUS responded somebody an email saying they would be available on Nov 2 in the US market (I saw this yesterday)… not sure if that is valid though…

  37. D Kite Says:

ncix.com has processed my order for embargo1, yesterday. All that remains is shipping.

  38. Sudden Says:

Got an email from ALLASUS yesterday regarding my pre-order. It said, in part: “I know you are anxiously awaiting Asus’ new Eee computer and so are we! While your order is still in line and there have been no pricing or specification changes, I’m not happy to report that Asus has informed me this morning that they have delayed the release of the Eee until mid-November.” -well crap.

  39. thehbcrew Says:

    Good Afternoon,

I know you are anxiously awaiting Asus’ new Eee computer and so are we! While your order is still in line and there have been no pricing or specification changes, I’m not happy to report that Asus has informed me this morning that they have delayed the release of the Eee until mid-November.

We certainly apologize for this delay but of course the release is all up to Asus, not us. As soon as we receive any units they will immediately ship out to fill outstanding orders. Please do not call us regarding this delay; our phones are jammed as it is and there is nothing more to report.

Many deposits have not been billed as of this writing. If you have not been charged and you would like to cancel, you may do so before we charge your deposit. Remember that deposits are non-refundable unless this item is discontinued and you don’t receive one or if the price changes and you do not accept the new price (neither of which we anticipate happening). If you have moved, are moving, have a new phone number or a new card expiration date, please let us know.

In the near future we hope to have pricing on additional (replacement) batteries as well as a 1 Gb internal memory upgrade. Whether you have chosen the 256 or 512Mb version, the chip may be removed in favor of a 1 Gb SO-DIMM module. By doing so you will perform the simple installation yourself, as we are not offering configurations here in our tech center for the Eee (it should take you about a minute to perform).

Keep an eye on our website for new or updated information. I will be contacting you when the time comes for delivery.

    Thank you!

    Hi there

I’ve read alot of reviews but I don’t think that i’ve seen anybody commenting on the soundlevel when in use?

I’m a student and would really really appreciate it not making any noise at all;)

  41. Terry Says:

After reading some of these statements I’m sure glad I pre-ordered with http://www.citrusmicro.com since they have not even asked for my credit card, let along charged it… They said, they’ll contact me when it’s ready to ship and look for payment at that time. All I have to say is, Wow, what great service. I hate to have to pay interest on a product that I do not even own, because it has not shipped yet. Sorry to point that out to all who have put a deposit down. I just hope the product ships soon. I can not wait…

  42. Lee Says:

Did anyone notice that the eeeuser.com website went down for almost 2 days?

  43. H Says:

There is now a 8G version on the Asus Official website, but under SSD its still 4gb… typo?!
