ASUS has posted new information on accessories for the Eee PC line on the Eee PC homepage. The accessories line includes:
- An optical mouse, which matches the different Eee PC colors
- Noise-isolation headphones which come in black or white
- Replacement power adapters
- And best of all: Batteries!
- 4 cell 5200mAh
- 6 cell 7800mAh
The 6 cell battery is great news for those who felt battery life on the Eee PC was lacking in it’s current state. Also, replacement power adapters are great for those who have had mishaps with the originals already!

The battery was the only thing holding me back, lets hope the price is reasonable.
A reflection of lame ideas
same here, i need that battery! where can i get it! running all those internal mods is now very doable with a 6 cell. i dont care how heavy it will be, it will still beat my macbook weight. haha
a 5-5.5 hour battery life? not bad. i was hoping for a 6-7 hours. but i can do with a 5-5.5
Those batteries better come in BLACK too!!!
5-5.5h, if my experience with the existing battery is any indicator, means “3.75-4.5h with, you now, the wireless turned on so it’s actually useful”.
But I can live with that
This is great! Do we have any idea when we can be expecting these in Australia? The battery was the key thing – I want something that will last me the whole school day.
Uh, where to buy?
@5
Asus gives quite good estimations of battery life. The specs of my Asus notbeook say that up to 6h of work are possible and I easily reach >5 hours! Just my 2 cent.
Dear ReasonsUnknown, this sounds great? Can you please tell us which Asus notebook has >5 hours battery life? Thanks!
I’m very interested in these accessories as well – can’t wait for them to go on sale, especially since I almost misplaced the adapter for a 4G white Eee just now!
Will the 6 cell batteries heavier than the 4 cell batteries?
“Will the 6 cell batteries heavier than the 4 cell batteries?”
I presume so, but only by a small fraction.
@Seraphim
Well, it’s NOT an EeePC but an Asus M6Ne. It’s already 2,5 years old now but it was definitely a good choice for me!
WHERE are these available for sale?
I’ll second (or eighth) the question of where to get one and two more: any recommendations on a case and does anyone know of a good portable usb keyboard? My hands are big and one of the ways I plan on using this involves a lot of typing. Just got mine today, and I love it.
I’m using an Apple usb keyboard and it works fine. Also had it talking to a wireless keyboard at work. I’m using a Kensington wireless SlimBlade media mouse. Got my bag from CC. It’s a Case Logic portable DVD player case. Fit’s perfectly and has room for all the stuff you could hook to the EPC including a DVD drive and all the cords you would hook up to it.
Just for drill if you haven’t got into the nitty gritty is a file you’ll have to put on it to correct a problem using a DVD drive to play movies. libdvdcss2 from depository http://www.debian-multimedia.org/ etch main
I’m certainly impressed with this puppy. Hope you get along with it as well as I have.
Hope this helps.

I’m not sure where you are, but in Australia we have a store called Smiggle – they sell stationery – and they have a satchel bag (that comes in several colours) with a front pocket that is the PERFECT size for an Eee
Saweet. WIll be keeping a close eye for those when they come out. Will be big for me because I use a USB Verizon data adaptor & it drags on the battery really hard. – Kiteless
ASUS on Friday, Jan. 4, told me the 6-cell battery will be available from the ASUS on-line store at the end of February: http://estore.asus.com/ .
For any USB mouse will you need to download a program for it to work from Linex? Bought my ASUS for Christmas and certainly like the light weight. No more back problems.
Both USB keyboard and mouse work fine with Linux as installed. I’m using a Mac keyboard which also provides two more USB ports for the mouse, etc.

How much with the batteries cost, and will they come with external chargers or will you have to charge them while attached to the computer?
My Eee Black 4Gb recognises every USB mouse I attach without a problem, it even saw my Bluetooth Wireless Laser 8000 first time without any messing about.
I’d really like to have a portable magnifier that slips on the screen. The 701 is one of the best things I ever bought – worst thing about it has to be screen size.
?when can we get 6 cell
