If you add up the cost of a warranty, a new battery, a mouse, the headset/microphone, and a new sleeve your cost is $289.94. Hahahahahahaha, you might as well just buy an extra 2G Surf. If you do, you get an additional sleeve that comes with the computer, another battery that comes with it, a spare AC adapter, and a spare computer (theres your warranty).

Thanks Asus, for offering a low cost computing alternative and then gouging us on the spare parts and stuff. About the only thing I could see buying is the overpriced AC adapter and maybe an extra sleeve because mine is frayed a little already but besides that the other stuff is just too expensive. Perhaps not when compared to other laptop batteries, but with other laptops the battery doesn’t come out to be 1/4 or 1/3 the cost of the computer!!!!

And with regards to the AC Adapter, I am sure if we wait long enough it will be available on eBay for $5. And a spare sleeve for $19?!? Ridiculous. eBay should have a great deal on that too for about $5-$10.

    4-cell battery??? I thought it would be a 6-cell…

  3. Amanda Says:

The 2G Surf doesn’t come with a sleeve, so even if you bought two, you’d be sleeveless!

You’d just have to buy two Asus sleeves.

  4. Lee Says:

Oops, thats right I forgot the 2G surf doesn’t come with a sleeve.
Thanks Asus, for offering a low cost computing alternative and then gouging us on the spare parts and stuff.
Then don’t buy them, but don’t get on a high horse as though Asus were different from any other company or was immune from the realities of the market place. Spare parts place just as much (more?) of a burden on manufacturing, inventory, and distribution systems as the computers themselves. What company is producing similar accessories for their lines at substantially lower prices?

  6. art Says:

The prices for the battery and adapter seem high at first, but they’re still around 30% less than oem replacements for big notebooks.

  7. lixy Says:

Meh. Chinese knock offs will be showing up in a matter of weeks.

  8. BAM Says:

Re Chinese knockoffs: Maybe. I’m *still* waiting for a knockoff cable for my Sony NWZ-S616F. But, as art said…

  9. Chris Says:

Power adapter is available and $15 from estore.asus.com why the inflated price?

  10. Laurent AZOULAY Says:

Keep on the Buzzz, ASUS takes advantage of it !

  11. Jack Says:

“Chinese knock offs will be showing up in a matter of weeks.” Where do you think the originals are coming from?

  12. lixy Says:

@Jack: ‘Where do you think the originals are coming from?”

    I’m guessing Taiwan.

  13. econ Says:

Matter of fact, Taiwan is part of China, be careful man, many Chinese around!!!~ OMG Chinese is coming!!
