China Snow May Delay February Eee PC Shipments

January 31st, 2008 by ant

It’s amazing how retailers are still having trouble keeping the Eee PC in stock. It’s selling like crazy!

It might be even more difficult during February:

Shen also pointed out that the heavy snows in China may have a possible impact on February’s notebook shipments. [Digitimes]

This probably isn’t good news for those of you trying to find an Eee PC in stock or waiting for the 8G shipments to resume. Combined with the Chinese new year, it’s going to be a difficult February for notebook supplies.

I was thinking about holding out for the 8G, but this makes me even happier that I pulled the trigger and got a 4.

Judging from not only the weather but all the train delays I wouldn’t be surprised if every electronic good is delayed by at least 3 weeks.

Any excuse will do, just keep it simple.

Can’t fool me. I saw the Walmart movie and I know all the child labor live in the factory billets. No such thing as a snow day for slave labor. jk

All these rumors and excuses of 8G delays are getting ridiculous now. Delays due NAND flash shortages, battery shortages, businesses closing down for Chinese New Year, and now snow?

I was dead-set on buying a Galaxy Black 8G when the series was supposed to be launched in late November, and now it’s over two months later with some retailers anticipating a mid-March arrival. Hurry up with the 8G, or bring out the 2nd gen, or I’m looking elsewhere Asus.

Chinese new year in China is the equivalent of Christmas in the west, 90% of factory workers are not working in their home province and it is the only time of year they get to have a week off to go home to see their family. It sucks for our production deadlines and gives me major headaches, but there’s really nothing we can do.
The snow has near enough coming out of China delayed, not just the Eee’s. I’m waiting on some garments that are meant to be showing at fashion week soon :(
