their charging $499 for a 8g eee pc. Are you guys just stupid? You can find a good solid laptop for that amount with better stats!

I bought my wife an 8g and got it in time for Christmas. She loves it, especially after we figured out how to take the training wheels off and get to KDE. We’ve had zero issues with it, and when the 8g goes back on sale, I’m thinking about buying one for myself. Why, exactly, did they pull it?

I ordered my 8G back in December 2007 (Texas, USA) and had it in my hands for
Christmas

It does exactly what I want it to do, and I see no need, now at least, to complicate
it with a mechanical drive.

If the 8G SSD is going to be problematic, has anyone come up with a way of replacing the SSD PCI-e card with a mini hard disk that plugs into the existing SSD PCI-e slot?? I appreciate it would ruin boot up times and battery life but would be interested in whether it is possible to remove the possibly troublesome 8G SSD and replace it with say an 80gb 1.8″ drive similar to that in an iPod??

I bought an 8G from Taiwan and now have it in the UK. I’ve had it about 6 weeks, have put XP on it, also using a 16gb SDHC, and its working like a dream. I’m now abit worried that the SSD is going to die on me and because I shipped it in to the UK, my warranty is about as useful as toilet paper with holes in. Should I be worried about the SSD?? Anyone know what the problems are that 8G users have had??

Hi all, i am a new EEE user.
Just received my 2 days ago.. so happy.
Mine is the 4GB (701.. i guess? the one with the webcam)
Just wondering, iwill a 8GB SDHC run on my machine too? or there’s no limit what sd card i use?

Strike a blow for freedom and get away from Windows and Microsoft. Better yet, get away from Intel as well. Only when Wintel is challenged will computers get down to $100.

Get over the horsepower thing and computer worship. A computer is a tool, not much of a status symbol anyway.

Wow, I really lucked out. I was searching reviews on the Eee PC and I noticed hat Costco had the 8G model. I ordered it and received it within a week of placing the order and then they pulled the 8G model a few days later. I guess they ran out. Now all they have are the 4 GB models which also come in pink. Ha!
Anyway, I hate the Xandros Linux OS. Though it is simple and steady, it is just useless with many peripherals. I think I will go ahead and dump XP on it so that I can hack my EVDO card into it. Besides, I’m just not a Linux guy.
