Jaffa has posted a hack on our forums that allows the Eee PC’s resolution to go beyond the default limits while using Linux. He has two pictures of what it looks like in the post: in 960×576 and 1280×976.
The hack is accomplished by staring a vnc server and opening a scaled client. As a result, you may have a few issues with it. However, it’s still a brilliant and easy way to get a little more reading space on your Linux Eee PC (especially if you’ve been jealous of the Windows XP hack!)
Nice job, Jaffa!

hehe. ratio, me thinks
1280×768 is 1.6666
960×576 is 1.6666

YAY!!! finally i can read engadget properly!
Nice job.
Will try it at home today. Screenshot looks promising. Thanks to Jaffa in advance!
Tried it out……and it is impressive work, however far from useful IMO.
Presumably, though, with Firefox 3 (which we’re told will do whole-site zooming), one of the biggest bugbears of eee users – that we can’t always read the whole width of a website (including, with some frustration, one that I am chiefly responsible for!!) – will be gone without any hacking?
@Richard
You can achieve this even now. Just install Opera. It has a whole-site zooming feature built-in since a long time ago. Opera is available for both Windows and Linux and it is free (though not open source). However, keep in mind that using the zoom out feature can make the text on some sites very tiny and really difficult to read.
The offer still stands if someone would like to come up with a true driver solution I have a community of people who are willing to test and troubleshoot.
