Uncertain future for the Eee PC in Nordic countries
February 27th, 2008 by djchangeIt’s not exactly hot news that ASUS can’t keep up with the huge demand for Eee PCs all over the world. But for the Nordic market it can have bigger consequences than in other countries. Lately April has been the month that the potential Nordic Eee PC buyers has been waiting for. That’s the month when ASUSTeK planned to launch the ASUS Eee PC in the Nordic countries.

In an article on the Danish website PCWorld.dk the Nordic ASUS press representative, Anders Haby, says that they have cancelled the planned April launch and that they have no idea when the Eee PC Nordic launch will take place. He can’t even say if or when they are planning for a new release date in these countries. One of the ASUS resellers in Norway, PS.no, has also been told the same by ASUS according to another article on the Norwegian website IDG.no.

In Tallinn, Estonia, the EEE is available quite easily, got a black and a white one few weeks ago, no sweat finding them. Most big computer and electronics stores carry the things. Strange news about the Nordic countries though

It’s been lunched in Iceland - BIGTIME
It’s beging ripped out in the computer stores that offer it and there is a pricewar going on between the stores offering the eeePC.
It’s popular running windows xp and garmin mapsource for those who own jeeps and travel crosscountry here.

This is like about the only time a geek in Singapore has it good! ok, not gloating over our European brethren loses. I hope we all get some eeepc love some time soon …
Come on Asus … ramp up the production … unless some competitor is buying the parts to mess up their supply! :p

Yeah, I saw this coming. That’s why I ordered mine from Germany a long time ago.
They just got it in stock, here’s hoping it arrives next week.

How can they logically give up on a release for the most developed countries in the world? They come out in 3rd world USA before these countries?!

“”How can they logically give up on a release for the most developed countries in the world?”"
I’ll bet some nitwit figured there must be Windows on the nordic Eee because that is what people know. and we will pay for it. (in blood, sweat, frustration, as usual. and more cold hard currency..)

Its more likely that they do not want to make a limited number of special keyboards for a market thats so small and translate Xandros into a language thats not as big as German or French? Although one wonders why they then made an Icelandic keyboard?

i take it the black market for the EEE PC just blew up in that area. as an owner of an eee pc its an amazing laptop. there was a an article on http://www.news.com how Sony is afraid of the eee pc because the eeepc is going to start forcing other name brands to make small laptops for a low price competition is always good it force’s other to drop prices and make something better then the other company. i think asus has hit the mark dead center they are making products that was always in the 2000 dollar range know for 3-500 dollars. bye bye sony.

Can we call Asus EEE a Ryanair (first low cost airline company) of IT industry?

Aargh! This is simply intolerable. We’ve been waiting for this thing for several months already and now it is going to be delayed AGAIN - or even cancelled!?
As far as it goes to translating the OS - why bother? Every potential Nordic user knows enough English to use an English language UI. It is only the keyboard that’s kept me waiting, and the potential larger screen versions…

I am thinking about buying the Asus EEE here in Iceland. I can just get it here in a local store so it’s easy to get. They offered me stickers for the keyboard for the Icelandic letters.
I hope everyone else here in the North will get lucky soon.

What is even more annoying is that I saw a reference to a future pricing on the eee and it just would not make sense to buy it domestic, I tell you. Ebay or internet would land you well beneath the asking price, and that would include P&P.
Why would I pay a surcharge for the Nordic countries when I can get it off the internet just as easily as going into a store.
That, if something, sucks big time!

thats why I, swede living in norway (as nordic as u could be with dark hair then), ordered mine from ebay seller in taiwan in october, no hassle, and price much lower then expected price on the nordic market. Know alot of ppl who still is waiting for it to be released here, and I guess they still have to wai.

Hey…no big problem.
I bouht my wonderful eee from UK and am using it with eeexubuntu in danish language - the special characters i my language may not be represented on the keyboard, but they are nevertheless there and it only represents a minor nuisance.

I live in Denmark and I got mine from Taiwan too. It got stuck in customs for two weeks and when they finally processed it I had to pay a hefty tax, but it’s worth it. The keyboard doesn’t bother me in the slightest - in fact, I have a US keyboard hooked up to my desktop too (I grew up abroad and I’m not at all used to the Danish keyboard layout, lol).
