Sorry for the lack of updates recently- I was in Asia without a stable Internet connection. I’m back now, and will be catching up with all news, emails, forum, etc after a good night’s sleep.

Welcome back
Get your beauty sleep then… I guess well have to wait
I was wondering what was happening
Me too, Love the forums but was wondering bout the front page.
Welcome back and look forward to more news.
I would have thought you’d be well connected there…I was wondering about just that because I’m planing a trip to China soon and I’m hoping to be able to maintain a blog while away.
Depends on which part of Asia you went… different countries have different levels of development.
South Korea is supposedly the “most connected” country in the world, with the most households with highspeed internet, etc.
The hiatus was no problem at all. I just got an RSS feed from news.google.com instead.

Quite a bit more timely.
Please.. I read 300 feeds a day.. If all of them has to publish trivial detail about their private life, and excuse a lack of updates i’d waste 5-10 minutes a day of my precious life.
Caprishe?
Ant, the big question is what machine did you take with you, eee or cloudbook? How did it perform on the road? Could you provide a real world report? After following all the blogs, I was ready to order 8G eee just when they announced 900. Now I am waiting again simply for the larger screen for my middle aged eyes. If the other features are at least the same as the 1st gen then the 900 should be a winner too. As a secondary machine especially for those of us who commute on foot and by bus and need e-mail, web browsing, and note taking, this form appears to be ideal. I am currently lugging an older Compaq Presario 900 and would love to have that weight off my shoulders.
I’ll second Bob’s post. I had an EEE in mind (a 4G would be sufficient for me, I think). In Canada, the EEE’s the only machine so far that I was able to see and actually try out (the keyboard is indeed cramped, but will do).
I’ll almost second Bob’s post too, except that with the 8.9″ screen, this thing will quickly become the default machine that most people work with. I use mine for almost everything and, more and more, when I find something I can’t do well on the Eee it’s because of the screen and I just hook it to a monitor.
Anyone has any idea when will this EEEPC 900 be released in Singapore? Summer as in may, june period?
opps..sorry..wrong window..
Welcome back! I’ve an 8G for almost a week. I tried to install my Verizon Qphone but they caught me out and demanded $15.00 a month and then refused service,, They don’t support Linux. Sprint does so I bought a USB dongle from them expecting Linux support. No joy. My wife downloaded 28 pages of babble that a Linux pro might understand, but I can’t. Isn’t the eeePC a computer for kids and geezer(moi). How do I get Wireless internet service from US wireless companies?
‘
I use a verizon USB720 on my eeepc and it works great.
Welcome back. Where in Asia were you?
Welcome back!
I was wondering about the lack of updates.
welcome back. where in asia?
Thanks all! I was in China. It was a wonderful trip.
Brought the Cloudbook since it had just arrived when I was about to leave. Really got a good feel for the device, and was able to figure out what I liked about it more than the Eee PC and vice versa. Here’s the reality: the Eee PC is SO MUCH faster. The Cloudbook seems to crawl. But, the 1000×600 resolution mode with Windows XP on the Cloudbook (that comes with the default driver) is SO MUCH BETTER for usability. It looks perfect, and I can’t go back to the Eee PC’s resolution. As it is now, I’m favoring the Cloudbook, but if I can get 1000×600 working on the Eee as good as on the Cloudbook, I’d be favoring the Eee again. I saw stuff on the forums about this resolution mode, but I couldn’t get it working right away.
It is also nice to have the big hard drive on the Cloudbook, except for the fact that video playback can be choppy if the videos are in too high of a resolution, so I don’t really need all the space. One other thing on the Cloudbook- the battery meter actually works and reports the time left, unlike my Eee PC. Little things, but important to me. I’ll have a more thorough comparison as soon as possible. My todo list is a nightmare

Ant,
Interesting about the Cloudbook preference. Obviously there are good and bad about both machines and it ultimately comes down to one’s individual preference and what works for one. That goes for OS as well. However, with the Eee 900 having a bigger screen and higher resolution, it seems that the only thing the Cloudbook then has is the hard drive which, for most uses of these machines, is not really that much of a deciding factor. Having weighed the comments pro and con and having used Open Office and Firefox in a Windows environment, I, for one, am leaning to the Eee with Linux as it appears to have everything necessary to hit the road running just need the 900 to come out.
Keep us posted and keep up the good work.
