I've used WinRar to unpack the ISO to my 8G SDHC card in the hopes that I could boot my EEEPC from the SD card but have had no luck. Has anyone got this to work?

Reading the guide that comes with the SDK, the aim of the SDK is to provide the means to write apps that integrate with the eeepc's "simple mode" interface. To quote the introduction, "The Xandros ASUS Software Development Kit is software and documentation to develop applications for ASUS products that include the Xandros operating system. Specifically, it is for creating applications that run on the Launcher, which is more commonly known as Simple mode in the ASUS Eee PC and EP20 computers, for example".

It includes some Xandros tools to do configuration of the Launcher, but otherwise is a straightforward Eclipse/Qt 4.3 development environment with the Xandros Debian packaging wizard, hosted on "Xandros Desktop - Open Circulation Edition".

Asus has posted a Software Development Kit (SDK) for the Eee PC, the better to help coders write new programs to run on the elfin laptop's Xandros Linux distribution.......
Interestingly, the SDK's guide documentation refers not only to the Eee but also to the EP20, Asus' compact, Linux-running desktop widely seen as the anticipated desktop Eee, also known as the E-DT..........
The SDK is availble from SourceForge website. http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=215613

I dont know if this is new or just no one spotted it... but the site links to sourceforge for it, where there are 3 files available..

EeePC 701 ISO, EeePC SDK and EeePC VMWare Image..

They are fast downloads too..

It's not easy to see the full link so here it is: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=215613

The SDK can be installed as a virtual machine (VirtualBox and VMWare both known to work).

si2718 has set up a torrent for it as well:

Seems to just be a Xandros 5.0 install DVD. there is an autorun.exe but Im not in windows to see what it says. will try it in a VM soon. only asus specific named package is xandros-asus-sdk-guide_1.0-1_all.deb ... just extracted it contains a PDF with seems to describe how to get your apps working in a Xandros VM.

If anyone is looking to run this SDK on a desktop box, but doesn't want to install linux outright, might I suggest Colinux? Faster & better than a virtual machine. It allows you to run an instance of linux co-operatively with windows, directly on metal.

More details on the SDK release can be found at eeesite.com as well as, unfortunately, info on delay for delivery of 900 due to fire at LG plant which makes batteries.
