Hi All. I found the EEE PC 4GB Win Xp Galaxy Black $ 399 at my local BEST BUY (# 374 in Yonkers, NY 10710) by going on-line and finding that it was available. I ordered on-line at 9 am and picked it up in the afternoon. The machine is outstanding. If you don t mind paying a little more, you may want to wait for the PC 900 version 12GB Win/ 20GB Linux $ 549.99. We all have our favorite applications & downloads that we like to use, so the extra hard-drive space would be nice. Also, the bigger screen may also help.

Well, it's heeeeeere! I have not turned it on yet. The manual said it was advisable to let the battery charge fully before first use, though I suspect that means before taking it off the charger and using it without the charger... At any rate, it didn't come with goodies (from Best Buy), but it did come with an SD slot. Of course, I will probably save files to my 4 gig thumb drive, whereupon I have a copy of AbiWord. Will report as I go.

Went to Best Buy yesterday to get a hands on play with the Eee with XP. They didn't have it on the display floor aloth the website said they had it in store. Nobody knew what an Eee PC was, only one sales guy said "yeah, thats that childrens computer, right?" He went on to say that it isn't a big seller. I went on by saying "How can it be a big seller if it's not on display?" and he laughed, "you're right, we'll put it on display, sir" After about 10 minutes, people were like "wow, is that really a laptop? it looks like a toy?"
Needless to say, I really liked it. I have questions but I'll save them for the forums.

I hope someone can help me as I am a little computer challenged. I bought the EEE pc with XP from Best Buy. I love the computer but after only using it for a few hours and not downloading any programs on it I am already getting a message saying my memory is very low. It seems like XP takes up most of the 4gs. Help what can I do. All I have used it for it surfing the web and emails. I have had to clean off my temporary files over and over or I keep getting the message. I have a 4 g card ordered but not really sure how to use it. Will it solve the problem just by my installing it or do I have to tell the computer to do something to use the card. Yes I am definately computer challenged!
Can someone email me and help?
Thanks so much

here is the deal,i remember when people were bitching and moaning how much windows xp sucked compared to windows 98 second edition.its true, everybody was saying how much better windows98 second editions was compared to windows xp.then windows xp was constantly being hacked into, especially through the internet explorer and e-mails,we all become aware of adware/spyware keyloggers and other hacker spyware programs that would instantly install on your windows xp without your knowledge most of the time.but after your windows xp started slowing down, then people started noticing something was wrong with the windows xp because adware/spyware program gobbles up all your memory and takes over your pc and steals your information.so as time goes on windows xp becomes the worst windows os ever with hardly any security protection.so with bill gates and steve ballmer being so behind on security issues with the windows xp,then a whole wild bunch of idiots decided that this is a multi million dollar market trying to sell people security protection against adware/spyware programs that take over your pc.i did buy windows vista ultimate edition last year, this is the most best windows os i have ever had.the windows vista ultimate editions runs so smooth, starts so quick, everything seem to work really really great.i think its the best windows os yet.i would give it a 9 on a scale of 1-10,thats how excellent windows vista ultimate edition is.

Well, I broke down and ordered the Black XP model from Best Buy, but because I don't have a credit card, I went to the store to do the ordering. Should have it next week.

Am now thinking I will get the White Linux version later, and then I can say that I went to the Dark Side of the Force (using XP) and also have a Jedi Light... ;-)

On 4GB with WinXP preloaded the 16GB SDHC doesn't work in this computer for adding programs. I should have researched the forums before throwing those bucks away. ASUS told me to try loading some different programs to the card but none have finished.
Save yourself some money and research the forums before buying anything extra for this eee.

I have the Best Buy Windows XP Version. IT DOES HAVE AN SD SLOT! If you are losing hard drive space mysteriously, reduce the space that windows allocates to system restore. Problem Solved.
