Eee PC 900 Coming Later This Month?

by ant on April 11, 2008

An article over at Digitimes claims that the Eee PC 900- the next generation Eee PC featuring an 8.9″ screen- will hit the Taiwan market later this month.

They will not feature the new Intel Atom processors just yet, as this will allow ASUS to get the new Eee PC out before the onslaught of new first generation devices from Acer, HP, and others.  Look for the Atom processors at a later date.

ohh don’t cry. Microsoft extended WinXP support till 2010 for low cost pc/laptops such as Eee. So don’t even look at Vista for an other 2 years. And nobody forbids you to use WinXP for an other 2 years after 2010 even if it’s end of life :)

redThunder April 17, 2008 at 2:17 am

XP support till 2010 is enough, I think…
Because of the eee and other umpcs Vista seem to end up like Win ME few years ego.
Vista will be won’t fill any gap and won’t be needed although it’s ‘new generation os’ like microsoft claims. When xp’s support stops, a new windows will come up, and vista will be no more than a mistake.

Mobile Computer magazine has a review of the Eee PC 900 here:

Jimmy L April 17, 2008 at 1:18 pm

that review says that the new 900 will come with a 5400mah instead of the old 4400mah. is this true?

A good reason to wait another two months? Eee PC 900 is said be available with Intel’s Atom processor from June:

The 8G utilise a four-cell 5200mAh battery
The 4G Surf and 2G Surf uses slightly smaller 4400mAh battery.
But, Asus release a new battery, 7800mAh. That would last for about 4 hours.
Those are not in a hurry should wait until they put the new Atom processor in it, which will have lower performance and lower consumption. If I’m not wrong.

Since both versions of the EEE 901 will cost the same in HK, it just shows how expensive M$’s license is. 12GB vs 20GB SSD.

Yeah April 17, 2008 at 11:42 pm

Confirmed Hong Kong will be the first place to lauch new eeePC @ 2008/04/22

Bplus April 18, 2008 at 12:11 am

Guys in case you’re wondering, look at the news release on Asus’s website.

12GB is 4GB SSD built in PLUS 8GB flash drive
20GB is 4GB SSD built in PLUS 16GB flash drive.

how dumb April 18, 2008 at 12:47 am

errr… why not just a solid 12gb/20gb SSD? how annoying and dumb of them.

Julia April 18, 2008 at 12:49 am

can someone explain to me what the flash drive is? is it inside the computer? or is it just an SD card they give you?

HERE April 18, 2008 at 12:55 am

http://www.asus.com/news_show.aspx?id=10911

Storage:

12GB (4GB built-in + 8GB flash) SSD (Microsoft Windows OS Version)
20GB (4GB built-in +16GB flash) SSD (Linux OS Version)

wheres the black 900's? April 18, 2008 at 2:21 am

I’m annoyed by the fact that there isn’t any black eee 900 pc’s in pictures, or showcased yet. It’s almost like their not even in production. =(

chilam April 18, 2008 at 3:18 am

I will have 2 of the 12gb with win xp and 1 of the 20gb with Linux coming in by next week from hongkong. All are in white color.

Jimmy L April 18, 2008 at 10:33 am

so which battery will the eee pc 900 have?

EeEpC April 18, 2008 at 8:19 pm

I think, dhe Linux OS version will be the best choise for me.

sdfs April 19, 2008 at 12:26 am

JIMMY L read what Eder W said. Jeez

Jimmy L April 19, 2008 at 3:33 am

yes i did read what he said, and he didnt explicitly state which battery the eee pc 900 would have. only what the old one 701 contained, and the fact that there would be a new battery. Never was it made clear which the 900 would use. Jeez. ha

dsfsdf April 19, 2008 at 9:41 am

If you don’t even bother to read what other people have posted about the new 900, it still uses the 5800mah batt for now. OK!

Jimmy L April 19, 2008 at 10:08 am

I did read it.

The 900 now availabe in Hong Kong for HK$4380.

Remus April 20, 2008 at 7:08 am

The price of EeePC 900 in Hong Kong is $3,998, not $4,380.
However, the battery with 900 is 4400 mAh, instead of 5800mAh, which shown in many media before.

aaaa April 20, 2008 at 9:40 am

Its $HK3998 bonehead.

Andreas April 20, 2008 at 3:12 pm

Who knows, maybe because demand is so high some retailer is adding a bit to the price. I don’t want to complain, but it’s been a while since the front page has been updated with news.

Eder W April 20, 2008 at 9:46 pm

Does anyone knows if there is a table or something that compares the EEE 900, HP 2133 and the MSI Wind (like screen size, bat, process, price, weight, extras, etc)??? Cos I’m going to buy a tiny one and need some hep to decide.

EEEeee April 20, 2008 at 10:09 pm

Supply & demand! Some retailers sold out.

Others now asking HK$4560 for the 20Gb version. aaaa I guess you not been out on the street 20th April.

EEE 900 is available in Taipei for NT$15,900. No news on when colors other than white will be available. The XP version actually had Office 2003 preloaded on the system. Nice touch me thinks!
