April 24th, 2008 by ant

Tech Radar is reporting that the Intel Atom based Eee PC 900 will be released in the United Kingdom at the end of June this year. This is according to an ASUS representative.

Look for the worldwide Atom-based Eee PC 900 introduction during Computex in Taipei, which spans from June 3 to the 7th.

Cool, I am planning to buy one before I go home to Denmark in Juli. Guess I will wait for the ATOM one then! :)

  2. Phil Nash Says:

I am really looking forward to the Atom powered Eee PCs too! But Asus are going to have to stop releasing new versions at some point, else I’ll just keep waiting for the next new version to come out!

  3. Molly Says:

agreed, releasing new models every couple of weeks is one helluva way to make customers feel properly screwed over. and most certainly, we’ll see the next price hike then.

1.5 hr longer battery life sounds to good to be true, considering the CPU only one of many factors.

as for the performance of the ATOM CPU, benchmarks show only the higher clocked models (1.6 MHz and better) getting close to the Celeron M (mind you, at stock speed). so it’s going to be a trade off: less performance for longer battery life.

  4. Alex Says:

the only benchmarks ive seen, which i believe you are referencing, are for the silverthorne which is the slower version for smaller devices. the eee will have the diamondville which is much better. i have not seen any benchmarks for the diamondville.

  5. david Says:

Yes, diamondville is dual core processor, which was created for Netbooks. Silverthorne is for mobile phones and other handheld devices.

  6. Jimmy L Says:

    diamondville is not dual core.

  7. Holipiliminiman Says:

Is the battery life expected to drastically improve? I’d buy an eee in a heartbeat right now if it weren’t for the 900 just around the corner - now I’m thinking it will be hard to wait for the atom version when the 900 is out.

  8. Jimmy L Says:

the atom wont do that much for the eee. performance will be similar if not slightly worse and battery life wont gain much. less than half an hour. but price may come down. i dont think it will be available in june either. im expecting august or september.

  9. Kev Says:

Preordered black 20gb eee 900 in UK.

    Don’t care about atom.

  10. Simon Says:

Took delivery of a long-delayed 701 today from Micro Anvika (concession in Selfridges/Bentalls). Cost me just £220 - which I’m happy with.

HERE’S THE NEWS ON THE 900:

They claimed that they were taking delivery on 1st May, and would be pricing them at £329.

That’s about £25 cheaper than the on-line prices I’ve seen.

Hope this is useful for those of you wanting the new machine.

  11. Muhahahahaz Says:

@Jimmy L: Actually, Diamondville IS dual core. Diamondville will come in both dual and single core. I just hope to God that they put the dual core one in the Eee PC. I already have my Galaxy Black 4G, so I won’t be upgrading unless they get some dual core up in here.

  12. SaikyoX Says:

anyone find out the price on this for U.S. $$

  13. Jimmy L Says:

the version they are putting in the eee pc is not dual core.

  14. Fedor Says:

    cool

  15. hmmm Says:

@JimmyL. Out of curiosity: where does your info. come from re. what Atom will shipping in the Eee?

  16. david Says:

I think it should be Diamondville (dual core) that is going to be inside, Silverthorne (single core) all Z5XX series where released in 2nd of April, and in June we should see Diamondville and all companies are waiting for this chip. If they would like to put single core inside that could do that right now.

  17. Jimmy L Says:

they will be putting an atom diamondville N270 1.6ghz in. Similar to the current celeron, slightly lower power consumption and similar performance.

  18. Vincent Says:

Bad, we Germans have to wait always. But we are the biggest market in Europe?!

  19. JoeSchmoe Says:

Is the new atom processor faster than the current celeron??

And exactly how much battery life can we expect??

an article interviewing the ceo of asustek
says the battery life may be up to 8 hrs in the very near future
    with the new intel atom

  20. Ronald Says:

A battery life of 8 hrs would be nice, but that can not possibly be achieved by using Atom processors alone. A battery with much higher capacity would be needed also.

  21. JoeSchmoe Says:

    yes
i believe they are upgrading the battery too’

“One of the most innovative features of the Eee PC is the that it doesn’t use a power brick. How did you manage to avoid using a power brick, and will future Eee PCs continue to be brickless?
Yes, our new adapter is even smaller and the charge time will be very short. We are trying to provide this new adapter in the beginning of April. It will be available with the 7- and 8.9-inch models. The charging time will be much shorter. In the near future, we also are trying to support one-day computing which would provide more than 8 hours. I think in May we might be closer to providing that.”

  22. JoeSchmoe Says:

    clearly says 8 hrs there
    x]

i got my finger crossed for that
cuz thats whats keeping me waiting still

  23. Jimmy L Says:

no way will they get 8 hours with a four cell, theyd have to use at least a six, which would make it heavy. even then i doubt they would get more than 5.

  24. david Says:

You might get those 8 hours doing nothing… :D

  25. jd Says:

i am just curious, wht the heck is the difference between adaptor and power brick?

i have a laptop and it has a power brick but it doesn’t have an adaptor.

so what is the point for eee pc to replace the power brick with the adaptor? it still has a something big attach to the power core.

  26. Joe Says:

Hi… Just thought I’d post to let people know that the white eep 900 is available from dabs.com and ebuyer.com in the UK, but this doesn’t seem to be an advertised fact. Dabs also appear to have an incoming delivery of black ones in the near future. I have my white eeepc 900 here now and it rocks. :o)

  27. Gary Says:

I just bought one from Toys R Us in Stockport. They had 4 or 5, despite their website saying out of stock.
