Order the Eee PC 900 20G and 12G at Amazon

by ant on May 11, 2008

[edit] The Eee PC 900 has been released! Many online retailers are carrying it, although selling out stock quickly.

While other parts of the world already can get their hands on Eee PC 900 devices, it has not yet been introduced to the US market. Now, it looks like it is getting closer to a release: Amazon.com has both Eee PC 900 versions listed for pre-order through themselves (and not a 3rd party retailer): the 20G model that comes with Linux and the 12G model that comes with Windows XP can both be found on the website. Of course, they feature the new 8.9″ screen with a resolution of 1024×600.

Many places to buy or pre-order pearl white are available. I am looking for black. I have been watching the forums closely, but no mention of a place to order black.

Doug May 11, 2008 at 9:45 pm

Yeah it’s going to be released on the 12th, tomorrow.

j May 11, 2008 at 9:49 pm

not yet introduced to the us? Mine will be here in a few hours via the few that newegg got.

richard May 11, 2008 at 10:05 pm

Death to imperial measure. Just tell me how big it is in standard units.

Mark May 11, 2008 at 10:14 pm

Has anyone heard of Buy-Eee.com? Before reading this story, I decided to get in on the preorder and clicked an Amazon link that directed me to their site, which then directed me back to Amazon to process the order.

Any news on these guys? I’m suddenly very nervous…

Does anyone know if the release of the 900 will reduce the price of the other models? I am really interested in getting an Eee but am strapped for cash.

Mark May 12, 2008 at 12:42 am

Sam,

I imagine they’ll go down eventually, but there’s been no word yet of price drops in the markets that got the 900 before the U.S., so I wouldn’t look for that to happen immediately… although the most highly-specced version of the original model comes so close to the 900’s $549 price tag that one would expect some kind of price drop soon!

a friend May 12, 2008 at 6:25 am

My friend who works at Asus says they’ll be a price drop of $50.00 for the EEE 701, but not until June/July when the Atom version is released..

* for the EEE 701 & surf models

Lok May 12, 2008 at 9:52 am

If this new EeePC 900 comes with a 4400mAh battery instead of a 5800mAh, people will start complaining.

k0n May 12, 2008 at 11:19 am

I think it can take some time for them to start selling 5800’s and replacing 4400’s…
Luckily I’m not in an urge for one at the moment, waiting till Fall. They probably will have released Atom-based ones by then as well as get things straight with the batteries.

fatfishy May 12, 2008 at 12:19 pm

I really want a black one but I think I might just get a white one today. I already had to wait till may 12 for us release and now I don’t even know how long I’ll have to wait for black ver. although I couldn’t Image it would be that long a wait since its already out in uk/hk. I can convince myself I’ll like the white one. hmmmm what to do

Jan May 12, 2008 at 12:51 pm

Can I used the included power adapter in Europe @220V?

Amigower May 12, 2008 at 7:01 pm

I bought mine from Amazon on Saturday and it got shipped today! sweeet!!
will be here on Wednesday.

boB May 12, 2008 at 8:18 pm

I ordered mine (XP) from Amazon on Saturday also, it has not shipped yet and they are saying it should arrive next Monday or Tuesday.

DTEG May 13, 2008 at 2:01 am

Price for the 20G linked above now hiked, and both shipping from third-party suppliers.

Mark May 13, 2008 at 9:35 am

I ordered mine on Sunday, and just received word that delivery should be anytime from 2 to 4 weeks! Wow, big disparity there between ordering Saturday and Sunday.

So my earlier question about the legitimacy of “buy-eee.com” seems to be answered. My estimated shipping date info is appearing on the real Amazon.com website, so all seems legit. Whew!

I just saw the 20Gb Linux on sale directly from Amazon and it is in stock.

Mark May 13, 2008 at 11:22 am

Amigower,

I just checked again, and though the sponsored link does say “Available Now,” that just means you can now order it. If you take that link further, Amazon explains that the current waitlist is 1-2 months.

I’m just glad I pre-ordered mine over the weekend! 2-4 weeks is one thing, but 2 months?

tommEE pickles May 13, 2008 at 11:34 am

At http://www.dynamism.com/eee-pc-900/pricing.shtml

They state: [EEE-PC-900/20gb/White] Asus Eee PC 900 20gb – White (Intel Mobile CPU, 20GB solid state HD 1.0GB RAM, Pearl White Casing, Linux preloaded)
Currently accepting pre-orders. First shipment expected May 16th
Please note: When in stock, default domestic shipping on the Eee PC is 2nd day FedEx for $28.

orivar May 13, 2008 at 12:44 pm

Anyone got any idea how soon we can expect them in actual retail stores (not online orders)? How long did it take with the 7xx models?

I’m gonna be visiting the states in about a month and would really like to get one, but obviously can’t order online.

Mark May 13, 2008 at 12:54 pm

tommEE, I assume that “First shipment expected May 16th” line means they expect to receive their first shipment from Asus by then. I guess it has no effect on when you could expect to receive one.

Foomf May 13, 2008 at 7:25 pm
Mark May 13, 2008 at 9:23 pm

Amigower, on the page you linked it still gives a 1-2 month wait until it ships. You sure can order it, but it’s a loooooong wait…

ct williams May 13, 2008 at 10:38 pm

I pre-ordered from amazon on Saturday and it was shipped tonight. I should have it tommorow.

tommy981 May 14, 2008 at 1:59 am

I heard it should be hitting major retail store in the first week of july but it may hit the smaller retailers earlier than that.

hmmm May 14, 2008 at 6:36 am

Anyone have a notion when it will hit AUSTRALIA?

DigitalAlan May 14, 2008 at 10:41 am

I pre-ordered on Sunday – And Received it today from Amazon – Boy the 900 Is amazing. – I love this thing so far.

Foomf May 14, 2008 at 10:51 am

I posted a note yesterday about excaliberpc.com having the Linux version for $30 more than the XP version, and also sent their sales contact a question about this price difference.

I actually got a response from a representative there. They are a reseller, and their vendor (NOT Asus) is charging them a higher price for the Linux version, and this middleman vendor claims, and I quote, “We hardly ever get a chance to make money and there is no reason for us to allocate this product to you when we can easily sell other resellers who have already been paying more” … now that’s sleazy.

So, consider excaliberpc.com if you want to buy the XP version, if only because they answer their email and explain their pricing. I have no idea whether they’re any better or worse than any other retailer, but I’m going to give them a try for other things.

Amigower May 14, 2008 at 12:13 pm

I got it today and it looks amazing!

Robert May 14, 2008 at 2:09 pm

I picked up mine at http://www.allsus.com, they have the 20Gb and the 12 GB in white only, got it today and it’s cool.

I like it. Wanted black but the sales rep said that ASUS is not really saying when the black ones will be in the US.

Nadia May 14, 2008 at 5:40 pm

I guess I shouldn’t even ask when ‘other’ colors are coming out, if the black one hasn’t been released in the US yet. );

Nadia May 14, 2008 at 5:42 pm

Forgot to mention, what I meant by ‘other colors’ was back a couple of weeks ago I think, there was an article talking about releases in ‘cool colors’ … looks like there’s no mention of that anywhere, especially with the new release.

Either way very excited … even if I’ll be waiting a while. (;

Mark May 14, 2008 at 9:59 pm

Just got my shipping confirmation from Amazon! I ordered it Sunday, was told by Amazon Tuesday that it would take 2-4 weeks. Got my UPS tracking number today, and it will be in my hot little hands Friday!

Bobbelieu May 15, 2008 at 8:37 am

I ordered mine at Amazon the day they were released here in the US. At the time the web site said they’d ship in just a few days. After I ordered mine (and I should have it on Wed.) I noticed that they hiked the shipping date to 1-2 months. It looks like they’re getting snapped up pretty fast. I’m looking forward to playing with mine! :)

Dexter May 15, 2008 at 9:19 am

Received my eee 900 yesterday from Newegg yesterday.. 5800mAh battery :)

Juan Rozo May 15, 2008 at 11:17 am

I do think it is a shame how this page now gets updated less and less… This page has the largest amount of users, and has tons of useful information, but if it continues to be updated so late, it will definitely loose terrain against any of the other EEE or similar related pages… For example, I used to check it every day, now I check this every week, and I check liliputing.com once a day…

Peter May 15, 2008 at 11:43 am

Boss, got any scoop or info on the Atom-model? I saw leaked images on gizmodo, but no confirmation on specs or time!

Karen May 15, 2008 at 1:26 pm

The Atom 901 is being discussed in the Forums complete with pictures. These are a few of the links.

Costco.com shows the Linux version for 549 and they also extend the warranty to 2 years. I am not sure if it is in stock.

Amigower May 15, 2008 at 6:53 pm

I got the 20gb Linux, I want to install XP but dont know which, either Home or Pro?
any pros or cons?

Foomf May 15, 2008 at 8:42 pm

Darnit, MrE … OK, mine is on order now.

Jeuhrn May 16, 2008 at 11:24 am

I just ordered two 20G’s on amazon.com (US) today from DataVision Computer Video, it says shipping estimated on may 19th and the 20Gs are in stock.

Then I discovered this thread.

Is there anything fishy about this? I didn’t know the 900 was just released, I was originally gonna buy the cheapest model but decided to up the ante a little.

I’m having mine shipped to an international cargo handler in NJ and then to Norway, europe, so those datavision bastards better not be taking on more orders than they can handle, thus chinking my chain.

Foomf May 17, 2008 at 9:33 am

DataVision is an Interesting Company. They’re a small family-run firm, from what I have been able to gather from their website. They do really really well with some things, and not at all well with other things especially around holidays.

Phones are one thing they have a lot of complaints about, arguably because people are pathetically stupid about phones with unreasonable expectations, and arguably because they made a LOT of mistakes with refurbished phones one holiday season.

Overseas shipping _through shipping services_ are also the source of a lot of complaints, because shipping services can be frauds, especially to South America and to Asia. So don’t use a shipping service with this company.

I got my EEE 701 with no problems, on time and in pristine condition. I’d recommend them any time for Asus products.

Ben Cowell May 17, 2008 at 11:19 am

Hi, I got my 2GBt two weeks ago, and I’m very pleased with it. Yes it white, but in the Proporta Crystal case its looks good and does exactly what I need it for. As mentioned the battery life is not great, and I’ve just left my charger at my Mum’s. I’ll have to get a car charger, I’m not used to such a short battery life, I still use my Psion 5MX & I can’t find a charger amongst the collection I have built up over 20 years. I’ll learn, anyway its great!
Cheers BC

Elliot_the_geekhead May 17, 2008 at 6:06 pm

woot woot! when do you think it will hit US stores? with the newer processor?

Jeuhrn May 17, 2008 at 7:22 pm

@Foomf:
From what I gather amazon fronts and guarantees the sale even though Datavison is the store, and I paid with VISA debitcard so they shouldn’t have any suspicions of fraud.

It’s an insane hassle to get your hands on any gadgetry in europe these days, I take it you’re from the US (and you think you have it bad EEE-wise ;D).
EEE hasn’t even been launched in Norway, and if you want one you can expect to fork out like nearly $700 USD for an imported 4G!
I can’t imagine what they’ll cost when they are (supposedly) going to be launched in june or july. It’s almost guaranteed the price level here will defy the whole budget-concept of the EEE, and it’ll turn into an expensive (but chic) toy for turtleneck and iPhone-sporting douchebags who’ll stand on streetcorners with mobile internet, loudly reciting their blogs.

I’m only worried about Datavision taking orders far exceeding their stock, one would expect the 20Gs to be ripped out of the shevles for two months ahead. I guess I’ll find out on monday.

Anon May 17, 2008 at 10:46 pm

Hello, I also ordered through amazon.com from Datavision, anyone know when you’re supposed to get a tracking number/if you even get one at all? The amazon.com confirmation says the item was supposed to be shipped on the 15th/16th, but I haven’t received any confirmation that it shipped or anything.
