I am pumped about this laptop! A lot of solid sources are claiming that it's a great purchase, affordable and a good buy overall. Anyone have experience using the Asus EEE?

Well, I think Asus forgot the basics. If you charge more than $500 for an entry-level notebook, why people will have to buy yours?

The EEE 900 is nice but the price tag is ridiculous. For $549, I can buy a well equipped brand-name notebook. Actually, I just bought a compaq from Bestbuy for $419 (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8780081&type=product&id=1204332500697)

Sure, it is a 15.4 inch. However, similar products out there are way cheaper and better than eee 90x. MSI wind costs only $399 and $499. And hear this, the boot time actually is faster than EEE 901 --- "We recently tested the new Eee PC 901 with XP and, despite its 20GB SSD, it takes 40 seconds to boot as compared to the 32-34 we get from the Wind." (http://blog.laptopmag.com/msi-wind-no-faster-with-ssd)

Yes, the SSD may be crash proven. But the SSD in EEE 90x will go bad way before you crash a HD in any notebook today.

I never like the 7-inch version of eee. The screen is way too small for me. However, I like the screen size of eee 90x. So why can't Asus just produce a version with just 2G or 4G SSD but with the 8.9-inch screen? Then they can just leave that expansion slot in the back for the user to add their own SSD or HD? I bet you they can because all they need to do is just taking out that second-grade SSD from the 90x, and lower the price.

But why they can not do just that? So they can sell you an over-priced entry notebook.

The Wind is delayed again. Why MSI cant get 6 cell battery while Asus Manage to get? I think MSI realized that $499 is to low to put in a 6 cells battery. So they reduce the price to $479 for 3 cells. I bet next month when MSI ship with 6 cells battery Wind. It will cost more then $499.

Needs to be lower power use, and Sunlight readable screen (like OLPC)

They need to license the tech from Pixel Qi - a look at Pixel Qi's web site really spells out exactly what we need in a mobile device.

AND we need touch screen and is we have touch screen, we do not need the touch pad. AND we will RUN Ubuntu Remix on this too!

There was one device at Computex that caught my eye, and that had a new AMD processor that could be run in a "non-turbo" mode to save power. When you needed higher graphics you could then run it in "turbo" mode (the AMD Processor had ATI-graphics built in).

In response to the guy above, it's because MSI jumped on board later. Therefore, they must find a way to detract interest in their main competitor which is ASUS, the company responsible for popularizing said small laptops. The strategy that they came up with is to price their laptop at rock bottom prices.

MSI wind have identical specs with EEE 1000H just less ram. Just wondering is there anyone willing to spend $130 for EEE over wind (suggested $499 or $399 for linux version). Why ASUS is so expensive?

gone are the days when we flocked to this site to check out the $200 notebook that weighed two pounds. they have come so far along now, and i'm even thinking about upgrading from the 4G to the new ones.
