This Eee log at the cover is v e r y ugly!

900 is a pretty runner.
The 901 is faster though… with an ugly face.

Finally we are getting something with more than 3 hours of power
June 12th, 2008 at 11:24 am
The graphics comparison is interesting as the 900 on the german page. I cant tell if the 900 is plugged in, but doesn’t look like it. So it may be running at 630. I say this because when i run pcmark05 on my 900, the boxes fly everywhere just as they do on the 901…

its running @900 Mhz Ben…
Fresh Windows XP Pro installation, latest drivers from the ASUS download page
June 12th, 2008 at 12:16 pm
interesting, I thought you would not of oversighted that. Why is it so slow then, ill try video my 900 runnin the boxes. Its def as fast as the 901 appears on your video. Great review btw.
June 12th, 2008 at 12:54 pm
check this out sascha, Looks about same speed as your 901

as i already mentioned on my blog, thanks for posting that mate.
I did a fresh windows xp installation, well i have to admit that i got rid of all default drivers with Nlite and i only used the drivers from the ASUS download page.
So it seems that i definately screwed something up. My 900 on the left was running at 900 Mhz but it really seems that there was a problem with it.
Gonna do a new and fresh installation again and of course i will do a new comparison again.
thanks for clearing that up Ben!

NO problem mate, as I said, I was surprised at the difference as the PC mark scores were not that different. Its pleasant to see the atom isnt slower anyway, just isnt much faster so still is a benfit, just not so much as people may of originally thought with that.

Can you interchange the batteries between EEE PC 901 and 900?
June 12th, 2008 at 7:49 pm
When is the officiall release date? Anyone have the latest LEAKED? I just bought the 900 last week. Its AMAZING faster than all my PC at home.

I know that this is definitely not the kind of question that can be answered easily..
What should I go for? The 900 or the 901 ?
I am talking about the Linux versions that don’t seem to have a big price difference. I was talking to a computer-administrator the other day and he completely put me off from going for the 900 because of the power consumption of the Celeron processor. (how long can the 900 work with the 5800mAh battery?) .
On the other hand, who knows WHEN the 901 will be available in Europe, and WHAT will the price eventually be?? I will be going to the US and the beginning of July but they seem to have bigger problems with the 900 availability compared to Europe so I suppose that there is NO chance to have the 901 by mid-july there..
What is your advice?
Thanx in advance…

Go for the 4G Surf hahah. You can probably find those for $50 bux on Ebay these days.

I just hope the reported battery life is true and even more so that the UK get the same battery that everyone else will get.
June 15th, 2008 at 1:10 am
I like the looks of the 900 but the specs of the 901.
Why can’t these 2 laptops just merge dammit.

@Ioannis
you can’t interchange the batteries between the 901 and the 900.
I made some pictures of the batteries:

What is missing in all the new netbooks, including the new EeePCs as well?
Needs to be lower power use, and Sunlight readable screen (like OLPC) - someone commented on an UMPCportal & jkkmobile podcast, that at Computex most of these new net book devices were running the new Atom Processor were running hot to the touch? But complimented the EeePC as running cooler than much of the others. Still more needs to be done.
They need to license the tech from Pixel Qi - a look at Pixel Qi’s web site really spells out exactly what we need in a mobile device. http://www.pixelqi.com - AND, like where Pixel Qi is working on low power screens, they are also building integraded Touch Screen into Low Power Screens… We need touch screen and if we have touch screen, then we do not need the touch pad (so the keyboard can be larger or the unit smaller).
AND we will RUN Ubuntu Remix on this too!
There was one device at Computex that caught my eye, and that had a new AMD processor that could be run in a “non-turbo” mode to save power. When you needed higher graphics you could then run it in “turbo” mode (the AMD Processor had ATI-graphics built in).

No big deal, I don’t care if these laptops have touchscreen or not.
I just wish SSD prices would hurry up and go down in price at a quicker pace, since 20 GB is still wimpy.
40 GB should be the bare minimum.
At least the current eeepc are heading in the right direction. Remember the 2 GB and 4 GB laptops, lol.

I have a question if anyone might know:
Are the 1000 and 1000h identical aside from the SSD vs. Hard-drive and the OS? The thing is, I would like to be able to get the 40g SSD one, but then be able to put Windows on it. (Well, preferably I’d have Windows Xp come on that system to begin with, but I assume Asus isn’t gonna do that for me.)
So, there shouldn’t be any reason this wouldn’t work, right?

rdeangelis said “but I assume Asus isn’t gonna do that for me.”
??? The 1000H comes preloaded with XP SP3 ???
See TweakTown
June 18th, 2008 at 5:06 pm
No, I realize the 1000H comes with Windows XP. What I’m saying is I want the hardware of the 1000 but with the OS of the 1000H. I want the solid state drive with Xp. It seems as if Asus only sells them as is though, unless I’m mistaken.

Where can I BUY one??? Surely there’s somewhere in Taiwan or Hong Kong that’d ship to the US!!! The 901 was released WEEKS ago; hell, the 1000 has been released. LEMME AT ‘EM.
June 19th, 2008 at 4:03 am
You can get the 901 on Ebay, no need to wait for it to be released by US online retailers.
June 19th, 2008 at 3:21 pm
No, you can PRE-ORDER them on eBay. Big difference.
There HAS to be an enterprising Taiwanese or Hong Kong retailer willing to ship to the US.
