Eee PC 1000H Price Drop

by ant on July 21, 2008

After only being released for a short while, the Eee PC 1000H is now listed for $549 on Newegg, a solid $100 less than the original $649 price tag. No word on the specifics, or if it will show up for this lower price on other retailers.

You mean the 1000H, not the 1000, right?

Yep, thanks for catching that

While checking this out at Newegg, I also read their 11 reviews on the 901 XP — interesting stuff. I wish ASUS would hurry up with the 901 Linux model… I can almost taste it :) …wonder if it’s wireless n compatibility that’s the holdup (not that I’m ready to buy yet… I’ll wait for early-buyer kinks to pass, possible price drops, and to compare to Dell E, etc… but I can only hold out for so long :)

omg >.< the 901 is 599 means more expensive than the 549 of the 1000H? O.O

I skipped the uncertainty and bought the Advent 4211 (rebadged Wind).

ASUS deserved this after their appalling handling of the UK battery situation (on the 900, which I have since sold).

I have to say that, whilst I don’t think it is really a “UMPC” (it’s a little too big), it is an extremely nice piece of kit. And I got Ubuntu up and running (including ACPI & WiFi) in a very short space of time (had to download & compile the wifi drivers but that was easy).

Wow, that’s a good price. Right now Micro Center is selling it for $649

Just bought mine at Excaliberpc for $549 last week and got it today. So far its a perfect
little machine. Its still $679 on allasus.com. The only problem is its so easy to get fingerprints all over the machine………

jane July 28, 2008 at 11:08 am

80 GB……….. finally some REAL storage space for the eee!!!!

no more 2 gb or 4 gb of yesteryear.

JSaale July 28, 2008 at 2:01 pm

Fingerprints? Ya know, I have that same problem with my Porsche Carrara’s door handles. Everytime I open the door, fingerprints on the chrome. Maybe I should have bought that Yugo Wind. It was cheaper, tool.

i bought the 1000 model yesterday for $700+tax at CanadaComputers
not sure if SSD is the better deal considering it has less storage then 1000H

I’m living in Germany and I bought the black 1000H with a 160 GB hard disk yesterday. The price was 429 Euro (615$) incl. shipping and tax.

Sergey September 12, 2008 at 4:28 pm

Now the price dropped even more

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001BYB5ZS

449 + free shipping

Just wonder why?

Rodi September 15, 2008 at 6:56 pm

Amazon ships within 1 – 2 months!!! sucks

Rach September 17, 2008 at 9:46 am

Keep an eye on Amazon. I bought one from there for $449 last week. They went from saying “ships within 1-2 months” to available, and back again.

Can someone tell me if the 80G HDD version is also running a smaller SSD for the operating system? If so, this may be a good option for someone who wants Windows XP, and if you want to swap in one of the larger SSDs that are available you could have a pretty nice bang for the buck machine.

Joe Bish September 23, 2008 at 7:22 pm

No, sorry, the 1000H is only one 80GB HDD. Although i suppose there is probably a way to boot from a flash drive.

Mike Hop September 25, 2008 at 11:11 pm

How successful have the upgrading of 1000H been

from the 80GB / 1Gb standard config… I READ you can swap out the 1Gb mem for a 2GB (max supported now?) and I see talk of some putting 100Gb and 160Gb drives in to replace the 80GB .. so why not the 250Gb or 320Gb drives available ? What is the “supportable” max currently

Waiting for mine to be delivered here in australia … bought for less than US$420

Joe Bish October 9, 2008 at 6:54 pm

yah newegg has it for $449 now also

Laura J. Underwood October 18, 2008 at 11:40 am

I just aquired the 1000HD (XP) from Best Buy. It has the 120 gig HD. 1 gig RAM.

I paid $375 plus tax (which brought it up to around $414.15)…

How to speed up eee pc 1000H? my cpu usage always at 100%. What the problem actually?

ilham_ana November 9, 2008 at 4:44 am

Please help me…i’m very worried about my new eee pc 1000H…

Jerry Salle November 9, 2008 at 6:48 pm

CPU always at 100% is NOT normal. Try booting into SAFE MODE, then do nothing but shut down and try normal boot–this can correct some problems. If it continues at 100%, try backing up your files that are important and use the ASUS Recovery CD that came with the Eee 1000H.

That will erase everything and reinstall to factory settings. Copy your files back from a thumb drive. Safe Mode… Google “Boot to Safe Mode” for the how to.

I recently purchased a Eee PC 1000 (no hard drive, but a 40G SSD). Have had trouble getting my PC 1000 to work at home with my Netgear (WGT624) Wireless Router. This router was set up by a friend … so I have no clue what the settings are. Interestingly, when I took the PC 1000 on a trip … it worked on a different (i.e other than Netgear) wireless router. Can someone please lead me through what I have to do to configure my Netgear router to allow wireless access to my PC 1000. Asus tech support said something about setting my Netgear Router to WEP or WPA encryption (“none higher’).

Appreciate the member support help.
