According to this article in DigiTimes, Asustek intends to introduce “whole-day” battery life to the Eee PC in the second half of this year.
Bigger battery? Optimizations? How long is a whole-day?

… and will this only be for new models or will they be backwardly compatible with the older models. I love me original EEE but the battery life is pathetic.
To me a whole-day is 16-24 hours. I’d like to see that!
sure its possible, if your talking about 16-24 hrs of continuous use then get real. that’s not happening with out current batt technology but, if you do not use your computer for large periods of time and you adjust your power saving options its possible. i can get 6+ hrs on my 901 surfing the net and watching short movies on it, and it usually lasts until the end of the day. it all depends on how you use it.
lets go for 12 hours
well on past Asus form relating to Eee’s and batteries I wouldn’t get too excited. It will be the working day of a council worker (about 3hs) or a Martian day.
whatever it is it will be a snidey cheat that doesn’t live up to the headline – i.e. you have to downclock your oc to 200mhz or switch off the screen/keyboard & wifi.
well they said the original eee battery would last 3.5hrs and in reality, it last that if u do nothing, playing a video it last for me around 2hrs without wifi speakers at half and screen normal full (without using the eeectl)
so i think this will last that too without touchin it?
This is a nice promise, but is vague marketspeak.
“second half of this year” refers to any point in time between today and December 31st, 2008.
““whole-day” battery life” can mean any form of technology whatsoever, power management software, new battery hardware, to something as worthless as a etc. and implies nothing as to what the length of a “whole-day” is, or what can be expected to be a whole day to a user.
Basically, Asus is sort-of announcing what may be an intention, or not, to possibly (but not necessarily) extend the battery life (or not at all) on current, or perhaps future, EEE PCs.
(Asus is not evil for this. It’s market speak. It’s meant to drum up some rumbling and discussion. Totally normal for companies to do. But annoying.)
BTW, the article in question requires paid registration to read: “Sorry, the page you are trying to open is available only for our paid subscribers.” So we can’t even read the article. So, not only is it a statement without substance, it is repeated third-hand hearsay.
8 cell battery is already available. I guess it will last around 12 hous.

Well… according to other Mobile-PC Publishers like Raon Digital a “working day” covers 7-8hours, but a “full day” covers 12hours.
See the Specs of the Raon Digital Everun, its avaiable with 7/hours or “full day”=12hours ..so lets see what Asus plans there
…a possible sun-energetic accessoire would be great, since so many “self-made” builds did not work that good
I purchased 10400 mah batter 2 -3 months ago on ebay for $40 + $26ship fee. Base on the article, they jacked up the price.
On average it more like 4-5 of continuous usage.
Probably only gonna be a 8-9 hour battery. I doubt if they could actually make a 24-hour battery. And even if they did, it would probably end up the same price as a 701 or something.
Whole day to me would mean at least 8 hours.
The extra battery sold by Clove technologies almost does this. I have a shipping container that i use as a workshop and it has no electrical power except an invertor and car batteries .. and the EEE runs for about 6 hours on the “Big” battery and then about three on the “little” (Included) battery. I just use it for viewing PDF’s and listening to MP3′s.
For me I would do almost anything for longer battery life Double the weight of the computer .. slow down the processor etc etc etc .. I want a computer like my Z88 ..
I read this press release on another site. I believe they defined “one whole day” as eight hours of battery life.
I just got my 1000H – sticker calls the “7″ hour battery life “whole day computing.
ASUS hit it right the first try with its 701 in 1 of the 3 critical areas – compactness and price. The other 1 to me would be features. It reaches the glorified peak with 901. After which the 1000 is well off balance in terms of compactness and price. Some said ASUS edged overly closely to the normal budget notebook computers.
So if ASUS can stick to 701/901 form factor and improve things from there would surely bring advantage to its side in the face of increasing competition in netbook market. To me traditional notebooks are pathetic in battery life. 901 is way ahead with 6+ hours battery, and 8 to 12 hours use on single charge will be great. But it’s surely harmless for ASUS to get results beyond that.
In laptop marketing terms, ‘whole day’ means a standard business day i.e. 8 hours.

Per Costco.com
“ASUS Eee PC 901
9″W VGA
Intel ATOM CPU
1GB RAM 12GB SSD
Windows XP
7.8 Hour Battery Life which allows for “One Day Computing”"
So apparently just a bunch of hype over nothing….
It is doable on current battery technology. Dell just released a laptop (E6400) that claims 19 hour battery life. You have to upgrade to a 9 cell battery and add a 12 cell battery slice (about $500 extra for the hardware.)
If Dell can do it with a full-sized laptop, Asus can do it with a smaller, more energy-efficient one.
My Eee701 battery loses about 40-50% power in 4-5 days turned off. Asus says all batteries discharge when turned off. I told them one of the features of Lithium-Ion was to hold a charge when not in use. They won’t answer my e-mail. Good Warranty ?, bad service dept.?
a whole day has always been 24 hrs
anything else is market speak
that said being able to use ubuntu full out for over 5 hours is pretty darn good in my books
whole day battery, easy, buy 3 extra batteries
I agree with drfrog. Marketing speak is disgusting.
A day is 24 hours.
24 hours are a day plus a night!
24 hours is not most people’s idea of a day of computer use, I don’t think it’s marketing hype to call a normal working day “a day of use”. As long as they really do mean a day of actual use, as opposed to a day of occasional use (that means switched on all day & use of wireless networking etc, rather than 20 minutes use every now and again throughout the day). Very few people stay up a full 24 hours using their laptop constantly! OK, I think I probably have spent almost 24 hours on the computer at some point in my life (probably when I was unemployed, had no kids, and had first got broadband!!), but it’s not normal usage!!
I bought a 1000H in December with a six cell battery and it gives me at least 6hrs battery life. This kept me working for a whole day at the office. I don´t use it every hour I am in the office – I have linch, talk to other people, drink coffee, go to meetings, etc. I figure there is a bit more left for evening fun computing, but after looking at a 10¨ screen for six hours I am kind of tired too, and maybe don´t want to look at it much more than that. For me this is a whole day of battery life – and I live in a developing country with currently 16 hrs of load shedding a day.
Totally possible. Throttle controls and better acpi controls will make it possible. There is also the newer liion cells that use a different cathode anode tech using treed silicon or graphite. It is going to be an interesting year. I do love that new tablet that was at ces. Going to get one for sure.
I’ve just bought a 1000H which claims to have 7hrs battery life but its never given me more than 3 1/2. Even when fully charged (100%) it indicates just over 3 hrs remaining. Any suggestions for improving this???
If you want to upgrade your eeePC to higher capacity. i know Malabs can supply the PCI-E for all eeePC series 700, 900, 901,1000,s101. you just need to pay a small money then you can upgrade your eeePC up to 64G. you can contact angie.li@malabs.com. easy buy!

I couldn’t be happier with the battery in my new 1000 HE..
Marketing isn’t what sold this netbook, its features and low price is what made millions buy it.
I haven’t tested the exact amount my battery can run the 1000HE however I surely don’t have to charge this more than once in 24 hours.
