According to this article in the Wall Street Journal, Asustek plans to add 20GB online storage to buyers of Eee PC models, along with other new forms of web content.
The article goes on to discuss the upcoming high end S101, Eee Monitor, and that the target of 5 million Eee PC’s in 2008 is still a reality.

Hmm..Will those who own Eee’s before that 20GB program starts also have access to it? Will the Asus update program break easy mode yet again in doing so?
How is this different than the 20GB of Internet storage you already get with the 901 and 1000?
This service has been available in Japan for at least a few months now.
lol why would someone want a 20gb web storage? i mean, its not the same having 20gb IN ur eee than 20gb online, in my case, if i were to download all 20gb, that would last a lot of time since my max download is 200kb and worse uploading it, my upload max is 25kb >.< but thats better than nothing.
i think this is something like, “heres 20gb free!!! come buy from us!” tactic to get more ppl to buy the eee, like something to balance it compared to competitors.
Might be a good place to store the EEE Drivers instead of
trying to work out were the disc is (In the case of people
that have put the disc in a ‘safe’ place)
Actually I reckon it is a good idea.
Since the eeepc started as an attempt to decentralize all the hardware resources, why not to put the hard drive somewhere else?
Obviously a minimum hard drive is still required physically in the eeepc…….
If you do not have enough space for the not usually used data why don’t we store them on the web instead of putting them on a hard driive or cd….dvd…..
moreover we can still access to them from anywhere there is an internet connection…..without to carry storage with us constantly!!
come on guys let’s give it a try……may come up some web application related to it…….without installing them….
I like the idea. It will definitely be nice to have some space to store my music and installers on, as well as putting source code. I wonder if they will let us host web servers off of it too, but that I truly doubt.
The site is up
http://www.yostore.net
But there is a problem with this. I have the 4g there is no code any where on the manual.
the site is already for some models: 900, 901, 1000 (not 1000H). all the others don’t include it. Is the Wall street Journal late, and this already happened? Or will they be adding 20GB to all current models without it? Or will it be in some/all the new models for 2008? I’m guessing the last one, although the the second is quite possible.
@Charliebrownau: the drivers are already available online at from a link at the official site- you just need a 2nd computer w/ internet, a disc burner on that computer, a blank DVD, and an external DVD drive for the EEE to restore the system.
It is available to owners of older eee pcs (at least back to the 900 which is what I have). Contact customer service from the site: http://www.yostore.net They will ask for a model and serial number and send you the activation code. (Or at least they sent one to me.)
Now that I have tried it I can say it is totally useless. Upload and download rates are simply too slow to make it practical for anything!
Interesting idea, but given how cheap SD cards and USB drives are, not really a selling point. Especially since an SD card will work even when you’re not in a wireless hotspot.
yah seems like its only useful for storing old, “emergency” data in case your hard drive dies, i.e. priceless photos and the like. but the site could die too, so nvm. better to keep it on a SD or ext hard drive. You can get a 4GB card for like 10-20 bucks, to hold emergency data.
Awesome. Makes me glad I decided to get the 1000H instead of the MSI Wind.
Ugh….don’t even remind me of this. Tried registering with the given code, 4 times to make sure I typed everything correctly . “Incorrect code”. You gotta be s****n me. Called Asus Tech support. Pssh. Yeah right. “Hi, try typing it in again”
“Did that”
“oh….”
“Then call back on monday im tech support and I cannot help you”.
Way to go Asus. 24/7 Tech support! w00t.
well they said tech support 24/7 but never said they would solve your problems. so there is still the 24/7
I found very interesting site about eee pc, called http://www.pceee.net. Every day there appears new information about netbooks
I posted my first photo today from a Linux 901. One good point is that you can allow others to view your pictures – a link is generated to be emailed – thus ideal for sharing.
Alas the site above noted by “smeeth” — http://www.pceee.net — is not in English, as it might well have been very useful to more of us.
How about my Eee pc model 702 getting 20Gb Web Storage service and other ?
You may face with some problem for some driver installing.
come on…dont give me all this! these kind of services exsit on the Internet since centuries! they can not be serious….they should put along with an asus eee a nice usb dongle…for free!
Webmaster ot Web Talk
with the current price of 16GB SD cards at $80-$100, maybe in a year or two.
“You get free and full access to Eee Storage Services through easy activation process as long as you purchase new version of EeePC”
from the sites FAQ’s… looks like us with older eee’s don’t get in on the fun…
I have a 900 with Linux and today received this message from yostore.net:
“the Eee Storage client is for Windows XP presently, as for Linux, Asus is testing on Update server. When it would be done and the Eee Storage Linux client will be provided meanwhile.”
I can see why that could be a big deal, but why not get storage from Amazon S3 or getdropbox.com for that matter? same difference and you get to chose instead of waiting for asus to get this entirely new channel up and running and supported.
Good site thank you
