This article from DigiTimes has some insight into future Eee PC plans:
- Eee PC’s with preinstalled touchscreens may be launched in early 2009.
- Dual core Atom Eee PC’s will be launched as soon as Asustek can get a hold of the processors
- A model priced less than $307 will be released in 2009
Good news on all fronts!

Ugh, crap. Just bought the 901.
me too i just got my 1000 delivered today
damn you asus!!!
according to windows task manager and dx_diag, the 1000H already has two Atom processors.
IT is ok..
it is always like this, when you buy somthing, something new will show.
I just got myself a N10j I LOVE IT SO MUCH
i don’t think i will buy any netbook with intergate video card
Look, you cut the tape on the box and it is obsolete. That said, I am panting waiting for the Dual Core Touch system. Maybe Asus should start an EEE of the month club for $300 a month you get a new EEE every month…
I think its good that they are coming up with new models.
Joe Bish, that’s HT idiot.
I hate you ASUS!!!!!!!!
You won’t get any more money from me any time soon, I’ve already bought 2 EEE’s in the last year and I refuse to buy another one for at least a year.
Unless it’s a dual core, touch screened EEE!
With built in 3G, BT, WiFi-n, and Wi-Max!
In silver!
And maybe with go faster stripes….
I just got my 1000 H a week ago and installed Ubuntu NBR. In System Monitor i discovered 2 CPU’s…….isn’t that great? Paid for one and received an extra one for free…….!!
No current EEEs have 2 CPUs, what Task Manager and Ubuntu are detecting are the two THREADS that the current atom-based EEEs have.
I still have an original 4G (haven’t upgraded to any current model yet), so I might look into upgrading!
Well, keep cool dud………..i was just joking!
and they will be coming with the 3G modem too! This is going to be nutts! Too much waiting for an UMPC, but oh well… I hope they will release them before March =d
I’ve seen many videos, where some users plug in touchscreen into Eee PC with own hands and demonstrate the results. That’s really great. But honestly, I have some fear to do this with my Eee PC by myself, so when already appears Eee PC with integrated touchscreen, certainly I’ll buy it!
Ohhhh… that makes much more sense. Damn.
this is great news!
been looking at an eeepc for some time now. i really really really like the 901 model… but now seeing the dual-c touchy i might wait….
maybe buy a 4gb here till then there really cheap now over here
plus btw there servises over here that will built a touch screen in your 700 900 models eee’s. and dont think it does anything for the warranties
I’ve been waiting for the dual core Atom model since I read about the release f the chip itself. I knew it was coming, but I didn’t expect Asus to bring it with touchscreen, and all sort’s of other goodies all in one case. Been holding off upgrading my 4g until that dual-core came along.
guys u FORGOT something very important, its ASUS with their PRICE! remember whenthey said the eee would be $199? i dont think this will be for $307 u.u but i hope so lol, anyways i wont be waiting for it so desperately.
“In addition to touch panel and dual-core Atom-based Eee PCs, president, Jerry Shen, revealed that the company will also release a model priced less than NT$10,000 (US$307) during 2009.”
read “ALSO” so it wont be the same, will be without touchscreen or no dual core, and if it its, it will be with low storage
See ads. for the new Eee Top, £399.99 in UK
Sweet – I’m still loving my 900 series with Eeebuntu installed. What a great machine it is.
Maybe in a year or two, I might upgrade to a dual-core one. Whatever happens, I’m still rockin’ on the 900.
With Microsoft discontinuing XP sales in 2009 in regular PCs, will that mean no more XP Home in these new touchscreen super-fast very inexpensive Eees?
I’ll be in 7th heaven if Asus bring out a version of the Touchscreen Eeetop/EeeMonitor ET1603 that as well as having the Ati Mobility HD3450 and Battery that the ET1602 doesn’t have, also has a Dual Core Atom 330. I’t would be out of this world if they also built in the likes of the I-Tech Virtual laser keyboard.
I can already think of three different applications in my own home.
1. A Dual Core Atom will mean reliable playback of most 720p H264 ‘out there’ which will allow me to use the Eeetop as my XBMC platform in the Cinema Room. No more will I need to turn on the Projector just to navigate XBMC to play music. It will be cool to be able to interact with XBMC via touchscreen and I am sure the XBMC skin creators can adapt their skins to enable real finger control Coverflow as opposed to the pretty but non interactive coverflow in the skins already.
2. Needless to say, this will make a great Kitchen PC
3. Heres the most unusual use. This will be an uber cool replacement for my Telescope Laptop. Astronomers use latops for all sorts of things like controling the scope, Checking out what to see with planetarium software, controlling astro-imaging cameras and capturing and storing the images. An Eeetop would be so much better. Laptop screens can freeze up in winter at night. No such worries with the PC components munted behind the screen keeping it warm. Wouldn’t take up as much space so could actually be mounted to the base of the scope instead of being on a table beside. No more cables wrapping around the scope as it turns and pulling the laptop off the table (Seen it happen, not to me though
Using the touchscreen to control the software would be amazing. Panning around the sky view in the planetarium software by dragging the sky with your finger. tapping on a galaxie on the screen and watching the scope move to point to it.
If the update the Eeebox hardware to the specs above with HDMI and Optical out(excluding the virtual keyboard) I’d be buying a few of those too as XBMC set top boxes for the plasmas.
Hypothetically speaking if those upgrades came to pass I could end up buying 5 or 6 Eee machines next year! Asus would love me!!
Very well! Unil then, ill stick with my 701, wich is perfect, wasnt i for the Keyboard (see Typos! Argh!)
aint used to the small keyboards heh fraorlando
If this pricing continues, I can easily imagine buying a new eee every year.
I cant waaaaaaaa
Windows XP will be replaced with Windows 7 on these devices and the touchscreen elements will then be more useful based on what support has been announced for the technology by Microsoft.
A smaller form EEETop would be an ideal replacement for my 4G say a 9/10inch EEETab(let) (c)
DONT WORRY GUYS!! news is that intel will only allow the dual core processors to be put into nettops, it says on many sites that they will sue and companies that put them into netbooks because they will not work due to them using too much energy amd being too hot.
I am not saying dual core netbooks will never happen, but what i can tell you is you will never see an intel atom dual core processor in a netbook. period.
intels statergy with netbook processors in to increase their speed but the next step will only be 1.8Ghz with better energy efficiency… not really worth the wait in my eyes
as for the touchpad… i will put a kit in mine if i really want it that bad, but i dont think it would be worth it as i would probably revert back to the touchpad too often.
NOW is the time to buy a netbook. DONT BOTHER WAITING
Any chance of a 901 type model with Dual Core? I like the SSD. The size of the 901 is perfect.
If you guys bothered to do your research you would have found out that what Jkpd is correct as intel will not be releasing dual core atoms in the near future. They consume too much power and intel forbid anybody to put their chips into netbooks, so for all you guys who recently bought an eee then don’t be getting too upset, we won’t be seeing dual core netbooks till next summer (unless some other company produces them..unlikely).
The best thing that you guys should wait for is the new ION chip that nvidia are producing, it will have an 9400m IGP so it should be as good as the n10 (though i think the n10 will be better still, dedicated gpu > integrated).
Guys, At CES, ASUS are showing a touch screen eeepc. The touch scree even rotates to make it into a tablet!
As soon as AMD’s low-power chip is released, we’ll see even more competition from the two manufacturers. This is a great time for us consumers
