Aeeeris 701 tablet case mod breaks cover

by Jon Bradbury on December 7, 2008

After a long time in development and much speculation, the Aeeeris case mod for the EEEPC 701 has been shown by its developer, forum user PvP_lostknight in this forum discussion.

In essence, the kit comprises a replacement lid that allows you to turn the screen over in order to fit a touchscreen and create what is effectively a tablet PC from an Eeepc 701. In the process, the keyboard and touch pad are removed. There are openings for the loudspeakers and space for the screen controller, and USB hub / touchscreen controller (which you supply yourself, along with the touchscreen panel itself).

Head over to the thread to find out more.

you really lose the keyboard and touchpad? you cant just leave them where they are?

Go ask on the thread, but yes, keyboard & touchpad are gone. Not much use to you if the screen is facing the other way, though! :)

Does somebody know, how looked laptops in 1976 or in 1981, and how will they look in the future? Here is very interesting video about the evolution of laptops – http://www.pceee.net/2008/10/evolyutsiya-leptopiv

Arghhhh! Spammers!!!

spammer or just a very sad individual? who knows

anyway. I have been wanting to turn my 701 into a book for a while now, had it for a year and ready to upgrade but dont want to let my legtop go to waste. Nice to see a mod come so far, and look so good might I add.

Umm… You might want to rename the title. I thought the article was that the aeeris case mod breaks the eee pc’s cover somehow, putting it into a negative light instead of being positive. But maybe thats just me. :D

@ robbie, when i first read it i thought the same thing

I’m probably the only person to think this is a messy and untidy modification. I am alarmed to see that the LCD panel is held in place with sticky tape.

What I’m more shocked about is that there is someone out there who still wants to tinker around with a 701 eee still!?!?!?

I can’t even give mine away to relatives. They ask me how much storage the thing has, and after I reluctantly tell them “it has 4 GB”. Their response…..”LOL”

looks like a good alternative to a $1200 tablet pc

Sorry guys, when I said “breaks cover” I mean it as in “comes out of hiding”. The phrase is used extensively in car magazines when a new model is spotted (and photographed) in testing.

Of course the Aeeeris mod won’t break the case of your eeepc – unless you are extremely clumsy when fitting it…!

:D

I also thought the title meant the mod breaks the top cover of the EeePC

Shouldn’t this be taken off the front page being as we’ve found out he sells a shoddy product and refuses to give refunds?
