I downloaded and installed 9.04 netbook remix on my 900A yesterday. I’m very impressed with it; works way better than the Linux build that came installed on the thing. As a Mac user and linux noob, I’m also impressed with the installation instructions that were included on the Ubuntu website. Took me some experimentation, but I got the OS loaded onto a flash drive and onto my eee without a lot of trouble. Connects with my wireless (WPA) and is much faster and better looking than the Debian build from the factory.

the lag is fixed if you install these:

linux-headers-2.6.28-11-generic_2.6.28-11.43~lp349314apw5_i386.deb 21-Apr-2009 19:06 670K
and
linux-image-2.6.28-11-generic_2.6.28-11.43~lp349314apw5_i386.deb 21-Apr-2009 19:06 24M

I added the four lines below: (yes, all four both – intrepid and jaunty is required to update to kde3-series) to the netbook remix edition and installed KDE3.

trust me it is blazing fast compared to netbook edition.

The issue with the lag you are seeing has to do with the X server not using a driver for display.

Edit your etc/X11/xorg.conf file to look like this:

Section “Device”
Identifier “IntelCard”
Driver “intel”
VendorName “Intel Corporation”
BusID “PCI:0:2:0″
Option “AccelMethod” “exa”
Option “MigrationHeuristic” “greedy”
EndSection

Section “Monitor”
Identifier “Configured Monitor”
EndSection

Section “Screen”
Identifier “Default Screen”
Monitor “Configured Monitor”
Device “IntelCard”
EndSection

That should speed up the interface and should allow for smoother scrolling and better 2d and 3d support.

just tested this on my 701, i am also seeing the lag when in the launcher, i thought it was because of the slow performance of the SD card?

Works like a charm on my 900a – and thats running it installed from a class 6 SD card! The only thing that I have found that doesn’t work is the webcam. Nice and fast, fantastic choice of apps through the repos – a definite keeper!
