It was not so long ago, a mere eighteen months, that a manufacturer from Taiwan called Asus, released the Eee PC and created a whole new niche industry; the small, inexpensive, light weight and almighty netbook. Open source fans were ecstatic when the original 350,000 units, which sold out in just a few months, had shipped with Linux.
Today the market shows that over 50 technology manufacturers have their own netbooks and mini-laptops, most within a budget that is affordable and within easy grasp of many enthusiasts.
Now, a collection of 24 popular and handy applications from the open source crowd, most of which were specifically made for the Eee PC, have been grouped together for the first time. Many are designed to run on Linux and all come with functional details and links so you can download them for yourself to use and enjoy.

Sorry, but the download site this article sends you to is simply ridiculous. It’s a cluttered, confusing desperate-to-sell-you-something page that has never even heard of the “free” applications I tried to search for. What gives?
