In announcements today, the manual has appeared for the Asus Eee PC 1008HA, also known as the Seashell netbook, on the Asus support site. The manual indicates that the battery in the Asus Eee PC 1008HA is actually non-replaceable and would need be to sent to an Asus service center to have it repaired.
The Asus Eee PC 1008HA is the expected follow up to the S101 and includes 802.11n, Bluetooth, 3G and WiMAX support. Updated pricing and availability information should be at hand soon.

That’s bad news for all the hobbyists who likes to be able to swap batteries.
Somehow I doubt this “non-replaceable” battery will deter the hobbyists. I would assume that if Asus can replace it, then so can anyone who’s willing to open up the case to their Eee.
Why did they make it non-replaceable anyways? That’s so inconvenient for users who need to use their laptops for more then the battery life.
Most owners will be either unwilling or unable to replace a faulty battery – and do you really think many will want to send off a complete computer with personal content still inside, with all the risks involved.
A triumph of design over usefulness !
There are the alternatives:
1) buy 2 1008HA’s (one for use and one for shipping back and forth) and (when the latter is present) rotate “assignments”.
2) build or buy an external battery pack and never use charge off the internal battery (note: unit will be less portable)
3) dont bother with an asus 1008 HA
