More On The Asus Eee 1008HA Seashell PC

by martin on May 23, 2009

A flood (no pun intended) of news about the latest from Asus’ line of netbooks with regards to availability and pricing. The Eee 1008HA PC is now shipping in the U.S., with ZipZoomFly, J&R and Newegg claiming stock, though Amazon is still in pre-order status for the time being.

Along with having it only just being released on U.S. shores, there is already a BIOS update available for the Seashell, specifically carrying a fix for the built-in Wi-Fi feature. There is no specific details telling what it fixes, but it is available for download regardless. You can download it directly from Asus’ website.

Furthermore, Eeeuser Forum member rastaz has discovered that not only is the battery non-replaceable, but those interested in upgrading the memory and hard disk drive might run into a few problems as well, seeing as they are both closed off from being user serviceable also.

UPDATE: There is a forum thread with some information for the daring that explains how one might upgrade the RAM. Caution is advised. Thanks to member Pecan Barn for the update.

This locked casing is a horrible move, especially not being able to upgrade the memory.

You can in fact upgrade the ram. See the eee forum thread here: http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=68951
