The Asus Eee PC 1005HA Within Reach

by martin on June 23, 2009

The new Asus Eee PC 1005HA is now available for pre-order from selected sites. Asus’ own facebook page has details and Amazon are also offering it, though Amazon are only offering the black version at this time.

Reviews have surfaced, with many asking “can it replace my 1000HE?” and comparing it with it’s brother, the 1008HA. The 1005HA is not as slim and light as the 1008HA, but you are compensated for the difference with a removable battery, a full sized VGA port and an access panel to make it easier to upgrade the memory if you want.

The battery is a prime feature too, having tested and reached six hours and fifteen minutes in classic mode. There are several battery configurations, each offering a different amount of time between charges, including a 6 cell 63 WHr lasting about 10.5 hours, a 6 cell 48 WHr lasting about 8 hours and a 3 cell 23 Whr which will probably feature half the uptime between charges of the first two.

If it had an increased vertical resolution and a matte screen, I would buy it to replace my 900HA and my 12″ laptop.

I was referring to the 10.5 hr version which has a glossy mirror screen. The shorter battery version has a matte screen. This computer is definitely better than the 1008HA.

Just got my 1005HA from a store (in Germany) and uploaded an unboxing video to YouTube. ;-) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xyS3mZkVAc

I was almost excited about this model until I saw that I would have to take apart the laptop in order to replace the harddrive with an ocz vertex solid state drive.

I would rather sacrifice having to deal with a slightly bigger netbook than deal with a slower, mechanical moving, 99% like to fail if I accidently drop it harddrive.

If they just made the harddrive easily accessible to replace, this model would win me over.

Guess ill be getting the 1000he still.

Looks like it is already available at Qbitonline.com in both black and white, priced at US$480…
