An ION single core Eee PC called the 1201NL has been spotted lately from the Asus lines which could have good potential. The 1201N as we know, is a mighty fast netbook available on the market, which boasts the dual core 1.6Ghz Intel Atom 330 processor and the NVIDIA ION chipset.
It seems that this new arrival from the Asus Eee PC 1201 range, which might be better known as the Seashell range, carries a single core Intel Atom N270 1.6Ghz processor and the NVIDIA ION chipset and will feature Windows 7 Starter instead of Windows 7 Home Premium, which could be found in the 1201N.
But that is where the differences stop between these two siblings. In all other aspects, the 1201N and the 1201NL carry the same foundation of features, such as the popular chiclet keyboard, HDMI-out and 12.1 inch display at 1366×768 resolution.
The price for the 1201NL should be a little cheaper though, considering it comes with lower specifications than it’s older brother, but we’ll probably soon see where Asus wants to take this upcoming release.

I can’t imagine the NL will be much of a seller, with the 1201N out before it.
this is like a rebirth of the N10J, not sold as a notebook , but a netbook with new design and larger screen, If I consider this, I might as well go for the 1201N with dual core or the N10JH with N280 cpu and nvidia GPU.
This 1201NL should be able to keep up with the Mini 311 in terms of battery life, something the 1201N wasn’t able to do.
While the dual-core Atom 330 is much more powerful at multithreaded applications, it’s a lot worse on battery life (8W TDP vs. 2.5W TDP, also doesn’t have SpeedStep).
As long as they are still releasing the awful glossy reflective mirror screens, I will NOT be buying any of the netbooks.
I do not like to see the reflection of all the people sitting in back of me on my computer screen. It makes them feel uneasy.
I have to agree with the matte screen comment. I’m glad I got my 1000He when I did (although waiting til they shipped with 7 for the same price would’ve been nice,.. oh well) because I couldn’t see getting any of these new glossy netbooks. Even the fingerprinty glossy cover on the 1000HE saddens me when compared to the matte covers on some of the older models. (How come the netbooks with the crap celeron processors get the best covers?)
Anyways, as much as I’d prefer a lightweight 12″ system with strong battery life, (I don’t care so much about the dual core or anything of that nature, though I don’t want to move down to the 1.3Ghz procs) I’m gonna have to stick with my 10.2″ until the glossy fad passes.
I’ve got one of these puppys to compliment my 1000HE. It’s size and weight make it ideal for me to lug to work and back. The screen, keyboard and dual core processor makes it ideal for everyday tasks. Don’t care about power as it is plugged in. The 1000HE gets used when I’m out and about, also its great for configuring switches and other tasks when I’m stuck in cramped places. Just a shame they both don’t have GigE to make syncing data between them that little bit quicker.
For those that hate the 1201N because of size and price, you have to keep in mind that with each new model that is released, the prices of the old ones go down to proper netbook prices
Are there any confirmed reports of asus coming out with a netbook with Pixel Qi monitors?
