The Asus Eee PC 1000H, along with the popular 1000HE, was one of Asus’ first releases of the Eee PC range with a ten inch screen. It carries the standard specifications one might expect from an excellent performer in the field such as the Intel Atom N270 1.6Ghz processor, 1Gb of system memory and between 80GB and 160GB of storage.

Asus no longer produce this netbook, but they have not forgotten their followers. Asus now have a Windows 7 upgrade guide for users with Windows XP or for those who may already have Windows 7 but are looking for further tips, guidelines and other “official” tidbits of information.

Asus recommend a BIOS upgrade first, then the installation of Windows 7, followed by some utilities and drivers and ends with information on the Super Hybrid Engine and the Asus Update software.

So give it a look see and find out what they have to say. Maybe you already know everything in the guide, but a thumbs up to Asus for still supporting the 1000H with user guides, updated drivers and utilities.

The Windows 7 Line-up for Asus has begun, and all our old favorites are now available (or will be) with new configurations, updates and of course, the new operating system. This will undoubtedly bring a steady stream of news our way after this quiet spell, so watch this space.

The Asus Eee PCs to be brought back into the spotlight include the Eee PC 1005HA, 1005HR, 1008HA, T91MT, 1101HA, 1201HA and the 1201N. That of course doesn’t include two nettops, four all-in-one PCs and two ultra thin and light laptops from Asus.

Most of the above models feature a common configuration of a 1.66Ghz processor, 1GB of system memory and 250GB of hard drive space. The above news suggests that any new needed drivers should be along very, very shortly and some users may already have the new updated software to increase stability and wrinkle out any quirks.

What are Eee Users most looking forward to with the stream of updated releases and new drivers?

Italian retailer fnac has begun taking pre-orders for some upcoming Eee PC models which are being re-released with Windows 7. These models are the Asus Eee PC 1105HA, 1008HA and the 1101HA. All are bundled with a specific version of Windows 7.

The 1005HA will feature the Starter Edition, 1.66Ghz Atom N280, 10.1 inch 1024 x 600 screen, 250GB of disk space, 1GB of system memory and is expected to sell for around US$442.

The 1008HA will also feature the Starter Edition, the same screen size, amount of system memory, storage space and processor as the 1005HA above and is expected to fetch a price of US$590.

The 1101HA will offer Windows 7 Home Premium edition, a 11.6 inch 1366 x 768 screen, the Intel Atom Z520 processor at 1.33Ghz and 2GB of system memory which is expected to carry a price of US$590 as well.

The above prices are more likely to be different, and probably cheaper, once they hit U.S. shores.

Asus have also increased the amount of storage in their online Eee Storage offering. Initially Asus were offering 10GB for Eee users, now they have increased that to 500GB, which is a huge jump of 50x the original offering. So now Eee users have even more space for backups and online storage.

Personalising the Eee PC has now taken another step forward. Thanks to forum member Cms, templates are now available for making your own keyboard skins so now you add character to your Eee PC 1000HE by customising the chiclet-style keyboard with your own designs and patterns. The patterns are printed onto paper, then placed onto the keyboard base itself. Photoshop skills optional, but recommended.

Meanwhile, the Asus Eee 1005HA Seashell PC is now shipping in the U.S. and is available via the Amazon online store. There are two different units being sold, so keep that in mind as you order. One has a glossy screen and goes for US$389.99, the other has a matte display and goes for US$349.99. The glossy has is powered by the 1.66Ghz N280 Intel Atom processor, comes with Bluetooth 2.1, a 1.3 megapixel camera, a 6 cell battery running at 5600 mAh which comes with a between charge time of 10.5 hours and comes with a sleeve accessory.

The matte screen version is powered by the Atom N270 processor at 1.6Ghz and comes with a 6 cell 4400 mAh battery which should run at 8.5 hours. A U.K. release is expected towards the end of the month.

Italy is to get the new Asus Eee PC 1000HV soon as part of a new launch expansion while Asus France is looking to slim down its Eee PC range.

The Eee PC 1000HV is basically the same as the Eee PC 1000HE but with one defining difference: enhanced graphic abilities. The new 1000HV is to receive the ATI Radeon HD 3450 with 256MB of dedicated memory while the previous lines have the integrated Intel GMA 950 graphics. So it looks to be the netbook that can handle some heavy gaming duties. The 1000HV will carry with it the 1.66Ghz Intel Atom N280 processor.

Meanwhile, Version 3.0 of the Eeebuntu Base custom Linux distribution for Asus’ Eee PC netbook line is now available. Eeeubuntu Base Edition 3.0 is based on the recently released Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope, which we recently covered. The new Ubuntu 9.04 kernel is said to already decently support netbooks, but the Eeebuntu uses a further customised kernel that is specially suited for the hardware and hotkeys that are found on the Eee PC. This is great news for those who may want to just have something simple to download and install without needing much tinkering.

A recent article has made a comparison between the new Asus Eee PC 1008HA and the 1000HE. The 1000HE is known for it’s outstanding battery performance, while the 1008HA is the new breed of Seashell netbooks from Asus, aiming to be the lightest and thinnest of their ten inch netbook range.

The 1000HE is still, of course, the best selling netbook on Amazon, but the new Eee PC 1008HA looks like it could be a worthy contender for its predecessor. Both netbooks feature the Intel Atom N280 processor running at 1.66Ghz, whereas the 1008HA battery gives out about 6 hours and the 1000HE gives about 9.5 hours. The 1008HA will be trying hard to become your new favourite netbook and travelling companion.

The Asus Eee Box B206 has been recently reviewed, with results indicating that it can have problems with high definition video. The B206 features the ATI Mobility Radeon 3450 and comes with a HDMI port instead of the standard DVI port. While the B206 is essentially a low power, low performance CPU, it is still quite capable in handling the graphics side. It was found to handle 720p DivX or H.264 adequately, struggled a bit with 720p Quicktime but played the impressive 1080p quite well, if not near flawlessly. Definitely worth a look.

At the same time, the Asus Eee PC 1008HA has also been reviewed. The new Seashell netbook carries the usual 1.66Ghz processor, 1GB of RAM, ten inch screen, wireless, bluetooth and standard storage, but really stands out with it’s 10.3 inch by 7 inch by 1 inch size and only weighs 2.7 pounds. All in all, this is definitely the smallest and lightest ten inch screen netbook from the Asus line.

A recent BIOS update released by Asus for the Eee PC 1000HE netbook has been reported by some to have extra beneficial, and possibly unforeseen, side effects. The biggest surprise is that it appears to free up additional memory for video. The consequence of this is that it seems to handle high definition video playback better and helps with increasing frames per second rate on games. Forum member Cms has some benchmarks demonstrating this newfound improvement.

Meanwhile, the Asus Eee PC 1008HA is grabbing headlines again. After making a visit to the FCC, found a spot on the Asus support site and made available for pre-order, it is now confirmed; it will be on sale in the U.K. on May 15th. The Asus Eee PC 1008HA is being claimed as the thinnest and lightest of the Eee PCs, but with the downside that the battery is not user replaceable. There is no release date yet for the U.S.
