Asus have now provided more information regarding availability of the Eee PC T91, the touch screen netbook with swivel ability and tablet mode. The T91 should be available in early July in the U.K. for about £449.

The Asus Eee PC T91 has an 8.9 inch display, measures 225 x 164mm and will be similar to the Asus Eee PC 701 in weight; under 1Kg. It will run with Wi-Fi and bluetooth and keep a 16GB solid state hard drive. It will include a bonus 20GB of web-based Eee storage and some models with also come with an extra storage feature: a 30GB portable hard drive.

Unfortunately, there is still no official word on a release date or of availability in the U.S., but a rumor comes to us through Jerry Stigliano that a U.S. release date could be as soon as June 15th, though that information comes to us with an implied warning; there will only be a small limited number released in the U.S.

More news as it arrives.

More on the Asus Eee PC T91

by martin on June 7, 2009

Asus continue to tease us regarding the new T91. The Asus Eee PC T91, the new touch screen netbook with swivel ability and tablet mode, is a very much anticipated new release from Asus’ Eee line. Recently, they go on further by now making the drivers available for download on their official support site.

This ads fuel to the fire of anxiety, which certainly hasn’t died down since the announcement of a T91 version with Windows 7 which will support multi-touch. Now, we surely can not expect an imminent release just because we found some drivers, can we? But it seems we should be nearing an announcement soon, given these indications, but “sometime in June” is still the estimated delivery date until we hear further.

The New Asus 3G Eee PCs

by martin on June 6, 2009

Asus are set to launch a new “Go” netbook which will feature 3G support. The Asus Eee PC 1005HGO is basically a clone of the 1005HA with the added benefit of including a 3G modem. Beyond that, it still carries the trademark specifications of 1.66Ghz Intel Atom processor, 10.1 inch display, 802.11b/g/n wireless, bluetooth, plenty of storage and 1GB of memory.

Another new “Go” netbook is the 1101HGO which is the 3G-enabled version of the recently released 1101HA Eee PC. It shares the same EM770 HUAWEI 3G modem, like the above 1005HGO but is otherwise exactly the same as the 1101HA. It carries with it 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 and the Intel Atom 1.3Ghz Z520 processor.

Pricing and availability are not known at this time.

The Asus Eee PC 1101HA and the T91 again

by martin on June 5, 2009

Asus are flouting their latest release to the Eee Seashell PC line with the 1101HA. The 1101HA, which we mentioned earlier, will feature an 11.6 inch display with a 1366 x 768 resolution. It is the third in Asus’ new line of Seashell netbooks and boasts 11 hours of battery time. The netbook was found at Computex, and many of it’s specifications were confirmed. Alongside what we previously mentioned, it will carry wireless draft-N, 1.3 megapixel web camera, bluetooth, multi-touch trackpad and a digital array microphone. Keep your eyes open for this.

Further news on the Eee PC T91 touchscreen PC, there is still no pricing or availability information yet, despite that it is now an official product from Asus. However, there has been a new development; the Asus Eee PC T91 will support multi-touch, but only via a special premium Windows 7 SKU T91 release.

A wave of new announcements regarding the Eee PC lately give us the impression that we have not yet seen the full force of what netbooks are aiming toward nor what, in our case, Asus are steering the Eee PC forward to.

Xandros, who designed the Linux distribution that we received on the original Asus Eee PC netbooks, are putting their latest efforts into a new development system to enhance the user experience that netbook users have via Moblin V2. Moblin V2 allows extra customisations and advancements towards media, social networking, internet in general and extra graphics capabilities all for our favourite travelling companion, the Asus Eee PC. The extra graphics features alone include spin, bounce, 3D animations and your standard drop shadows features for your everyday applications.

Moblin, in essence, is a technology and software framework built-in upon an optimised open source Linux base that helps bring social networking and advanced internet and media features together on your netbook.

Furthermore, Asus have now officially launched the Eee PC T91 touch screen netbook with swivel capabilities and the much talk about tablet mode. The netbook, bundled with Asus’ own TouchSuite software, means all your favourite features and applications are, literally, available at your fingertips.

New Releases From Asus’ Eee PC Line

by martin on June 1, 2009

Two new upcoming releases from Asus Eee are the Eee PC 1101HA and a new Snapdragon-based processor netbook.

The Asus Eee PC 1101HA will feature an Intel Atom Z520 or Z530 processor, an 11.6 inch display operating at 1366×768 resolution and should run for up to eleven hours between charges. The netbook should resemble the Asus Eee 1008HA Seashell PC with regards to it’s style and design.

The next new netbook, which was shown at Computex in Taiwan, is very unique in that it carries a whole different style of computing. It is similar in that it looks like the Asus Eee 1008A Seashell PC as well, but will actually come with a 1Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor instead of the usual Intel Atom, and will come default with the Android operating system from Google.

The Snapdragon processor will feature hardware acceleration for 720p video, and the netbook itself will come with an embedded GPS and 3G modem. A special feature for this particular netbook is that even while in suspend mode, you will still be able to receive your emails, instant message notifications and other alerts.

On the heels of a post two days ago, and in the interest of giving new life and attraction at the old greats in the Asus Eee PC line-up, here is something which is sure to make some Eee PC 70x users very happy.

Many users were happy with many aspects of the Eee PC 701, and unhappy with other aspects, we know the perfect netbook may not exist, but there are some that are very, very close. Some fans of the 70x series replaced the keyboard with what they thought were more useful or appropriate keyboards, and some users found a way to do something else as well; replace the screen.

Probably just as many purchasers of the 70x series loved the small screen as much as there were those who hated it or found it a tad too small. Then the 90x came out with the larger screen that many argued belonged on the 70x, but a 70x with a larger screen never made it to the market. Until now.

Eeeuser forum member RandyLude92 has a long forum thread detailing how he managed to retrieve the larger screen from the 90x and maneuver it into the 70x. This involves carefully lifting the screen from the 90x, placing it into the 70x and even updating the BIOS to support the larger screen (to remove the screen size limitation, otherwise the whole screen would not be properly utilised).

So if you are feeling adventurous, give it a go, it appears to be a wonderful modification project. Warning, not recommended for the faint of heart, those still under warranty, if you have no backup plans in case anything goes wrong or those without a sense of adventure.

Aussies will be pleased as word gets around that Asus will release more of it’s latest offerings in Australia over the next month or two, including it’s latest favourite three. The new releases in question (amongst others), includes the Eee PC T91 touchscreen PC with tablet mode, the Eee PC Seashell 1008HA and it’s brother the Eee PC 1005HA, which should be available for purchase at AU$999, AU$899 AU$599-AU$799 (depending on which configuration you choose) respectively.

Those prices might look high, but due to various unfortunate conditions, computers cost more in general in Australia to buy, which has been a constant thorn in the side of Australian purchasers for ages. The Eee PC 701 used to fetch AU$450-500, but can now be had for about AU$200-$300, depending on the source. However, once more and more of the above become available in the market, the prices should come down to a more reasonable level.

They should be arriving in July.

The Asus Eee PC 701: Your Computer Book

by martin on May 28, 2009

No, no, we don’t mean a notebook or tablet, we mean using your Eee PC 701 as an actual book. An Italian Eee PC enthusiast has created a package, called “eeeBookMode”, that will allow you to turn your Eee PC into an actual ebook reader appliance.

The tutorial (in Italian) explains how to get it all going. The first script rotates the little LCD screen and touchpad so you can actually treat the Eee PC as a book, while the second script reverses the first and sets your Eee PC back to normal.

The tutorial further goes into detail revealing how to set up CDisplay for the comic fans and Foxit Reader to respond to the trackpad.

Quite an interesting and fun way to expand on the list of great things you can already do with your Eee PC, as well as giving new life to the original Asus Eee PC 701.

The Eee PC 1002HAE Release

by martin on May 28, 2009

The Asus Eee PC 1002HAE PC, which we covered earlier, was released in Japan on May 16th, and is a minor update and brother to the Asus Eee PC 1002HA. As mentioned in our earlier article, the 1002HAE is a near clone of the 1002HA, except it offers more colour options (instead of just grey), a chiclet-style keyboard and the Intel Atom N280 processor running at 1.66Ghz instead of the Intel Atom N270 CPU.

A recent review indicates several other changes, including screws with plugs, preventing or at least making it difficult to access the bays underneath, just in case you wanted to upgrade the memory, storage or any other feature. The battery also, is actually placed at the front of the netbook, instead of the back, which is standard for most other netbooks. This brings with the disadvantage that if anyone would want to put an extended battery in it, it would increase the height of the keyboard to a possibly uncomfortable level for touch typists.

Battery life is found to be about three to four hours between charges, from basic testing. The Asus Eee PC 1002HAE is still only available in Japan, but we are waiting on word for a U.S. release.
