Welcome to EeeUser!

This unofficial website was formed on Friday, 8 June 2007 by ant to gather information about the Asus Eee PC. The Eee PC is a line of inexpensive ultraportable notebook computers released by ASUS Computer Inc. in late 2007. Eee PCs follow a design philosophy that ASUS dubs “the three Es”: “Easy to learn, Easy to work, and Easy to play”.

:!: Eee PC Specs

See the Asus Eee PC article for more details on the Eee, including information on the actual hardware and software that it comes with.

:?: New to eeeuser.com?

There are three parts to the EeeUser website, the blog or Home page, the Forums and this, the Wiki.

In order to contribute to this community you need to sign on separately for each part but it is extremely desirable that you use the same user id for all parts.

:!: Rules

There are some rules for this website which you should read. While they are primarily directed at the Forums, the principles should be applied to all parts.

:!: Searching!

You are particularly encouraged to browse and search the Forums and the Wiki before asking questions which may have been answered numerous times before. For the new user, the eeeuser Google Custom Search facility (on the Home page) is particularly useful as it searches all three parts of this website. It also has functionality most users are comfortable with and can be used, for example, to search for error messages that can be copied and pasted into it. It accepts search terms which consist of two characters, like F9. In addition, there are specific search facilities, like the Forum Search and the Wiki search at the top of every Wiki page.

:?: New to the Eee PC?

There are a number of wiki articles which you might find particularly useful, for example, Absolute Beginners: A Guide to tweaking Easy Mode with wizards, Common Problems, Frequently Asked Questions and An introduction to terminal. If you are new to the Eee and/or Xandros it is worth building up your skills with more basic projects before trying the advanced ones.

Common Problems

Customizing the Interface

Easy Mode

Full Desktop (Advanced Mode)

Advanced mode turns off the default tabbed user interface and enables a more “normal” computer desktop with a launch / “Start” button, with movable, re-arrangeable icons on the desktop, icons that respond to right-clicks, etc. This adds a burden to the system, but many find the ease of configuration worth it.

  • In a nutshell:

DebianEeePC is a project which follows the CustomDebian approach (http://wiki.debian.org/CustomDebian), ensuring
Debian meets the needs of a subset of Debian users: in this case, EeePC users. The goal is to
make Debian itself run on your Eee, not a derivative of Debian.

  • Status:

In the current version all hardware works and the system is running like a charm.
